Bins and terraced house

In my -- fairly nice -- neighbourhood , we all have front gardens and driveways and STILL all the bins stand on the pavement because no one can bother to pulls theirs in. You get used to it ...0

There are a handful of Victorian terraced houses in our village that have no rear access/alleyway or access over a neighbouring property. They don't have front gardens/forecourts either and as the only option here is to have a wheelie bin for rubbish, they all keep them at the front permanently. In addition they are supposed to have a second wheelie bin for cardboard and plastics plus a plastic box for glass and cans. There is also an optional garden waste bin.
The houses in question all appear to have opted not to have a second wheelie bin (although they do have the small plastic box) and I know for a fact one neighbour takes her recyclable card/plastic to a friend's bin opposite
We are lucky in that whilst our house also fronts straight onto the pavement we have a driveway with side/rear access for storing/moving our two wheelie bins.....personally I would do all I could to avoid buying a house where there was no rear/side access and the only option was to leave them permanently by the front doorMortgage-free for fourteen years!

I am in a terrace with no rear access. It wouldn't be practical to wheel 3 different bins through the house so they stay at the front . We are not allowed to leave them on the pavement.0

Our terrace block leave the bins down the lane that runs down the side of the end house. We could also leave them out the front if we wanted but only one house chooses to do this.0

I used to live in a house in a terraced block where no-one kept the bins in the front gardens.
On a bin day, I used to unlock the back door, unlock a trellis gate to where my bins were stored, an area which led to the back gate which was bolted. Then I used to have to open the gate at the end of the entry and the bins would be collected from the side road. This proceedure used 3 different keys! and some bolts and of course I had to return to the house re-locking all the gates and back door. On my return from work it all had to be done again to bring the bin/bins back in.
Just before I moved house, everyone started to use their front gardens for the bins...:(
I'm much happier now I live in an apartment block. We have individual bins, two recycling bins and one garden bin.
We have agreed to put our rubbish in one general waste bin until it is full before starting to fill another one (we usually only fill two). One of the residents has decided it is her job to take the bins in and out so I've never had to do it once :jNot Rachmaninov

i am in this situation at the moment, although only for a couple of weeks while my garage and parking area at the back are still being built
got to drag my bin through the house later, luckily it's a new bin and i have laminate floors, so shouldn't make a mess, but i would not be happy with this as a long term arrangement0 -
How do people manage with having to take the wheelie bin through a terraced house? Its just that seems to be the way its done with a property I'm looking at. Would this not be very dirty and smelly to have to do? None of the neighbours store their bins at the front so I couldn't do that. A bin at the front door would get on my nerves anyway.
Yes - it sounds gross. Can you go there on bin day and see what they do? TBH I couldn't live somewhere that needed me to haul the bin through the house.I am the Cat who walks alone0 -
on our road, a few people leave their bins by their front door. must smell and they end up with dead grass underneath.
everyone else just leaves them at the end of the terraces.0 -
