Bins and terraced house

How do people manage with having to take the wheelie bin through a terraced house? Its just that seems to be the way its done with a property I'm looking at. Would this not be very dirty and smelly to have to do? None of the neighbours store their bins at the front so I couldn't do that. A bin at the front door would get on my nerves anyway.

  • my rubbish is collected at the back.... other terraces in the area have alleyways (with the house over the alley- cant explain it how i want to!) between houses which people take the bins back and forth.

My rubbish is also collected from the rear, I have to wheel the bin down the alleyway at the back and leave it at the end for collection. I have noticed that a couple of my neighbours seem to prefer to leave theirs by the front door on collection day and I have often wondered the same as you about wheeling a smelly bin all through the house!

In my neighborhood, all bins are free standing on footpath :) Yes I can wheel it towards the rear end of the house but why bother.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

I'm lucky in that I have the back alleyway from the garden.
Neighbours who don't leave theirs in the front yard. Yes it's unsightly, but I personally wouldn't be dragging a manky bin through the house every bin day, I find the idea too unhygienic and I'd probably be bouncing off the doors and walls along the way.
I dislike the idea of a bin by my front window, but I like the idea of dragging it through the house even less.
Do you have a front yard bit, or would the bin be on the pavement?

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

A lot of terraces have a right of way through other people's gardens - have you asked the EA about one?

Does the area definitely use wheelie bins as where I'm buying a terrace you just put out the bin bags weekly (black bags and recycling bags)? Where I live now the newer terraces have a little bin porch at the end of their drive where they are kept, so they don't go in the back garden at all.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

Some of the terraced houses keep their bins in the front garden and others wheel them along an alleyway to the front of the house on collection day.

We currently live in a 'pavement' terrace and we don't have a wheelie bin. We get blue bags from the council and we are allowed to put two out each week. However, we do have to carry the bags (and the recycling boxes/green waste/plastics) through the house each week to put them out. I never thought I'd miss a wheelie bin but I do! We do still get a weekly collection though which is good.

I would not be willing to have to take a wheelie bin through the house. In my last house (which was terraced) the bins were collected from the rear of the houses. I am now living in another terrace and all of the bins are kept outside one the pavement at the front (we have no front gardens/yards)
Have you asked the vendors or agents what the arrangements are? I think, for me, having to bring bins through the house would probably put me off buying.

It's because you're too poverty stricken to afford a house that is wider than your own bin! :-)
