Ebid

Hi everyone,

I have had problems with Ebay. I still sell there when I can but they keep limiting my selling and won't let me list for free so I jumped over to Ebid. I paid just under £50 on a lifetime membership, no other fees unless you want extras. It took a while to pick up but I am very happy now and am now selling on it. I think because it is linked with Google Shopping. That is always how I shop online.

I also sell well on Amazon but their fees are ridiculous! Much like Ebay.

  • Problem is, there are no buyers on Ebid. When they asked on their Facebook page about people's experience with selling on their website, some thought they could tell the truth about the lack of buyers. Their comments were deleted and replaced by a ridiculous comment from Ebid CS rep making fun of those who moan but never put any effort in making a sale. The problem with this logic is that if one needs to advertise their listings in order to sell, they might as well have their own websites instead of Ebid.
  • Hi,

I thought that as I didn't have a sale for the first month and put loads of work in. It is picking up now. I also got annoyed when people told me I was selling wrong and not putting the effort in. I was disheartened but have started to sell. Not as much as Ebay but enough to make the effort and cost worthwhile. Hopefully it will continue as Ebay doesn't seem to care about it's sellers.
  • I would like EBid to be successful, but for a website that has been around since 1998, it should do better. I mean, how many of us check Ebid when they want to buy an item? That should be an indication.

I agree, I think I've been on there now for around 9 or 10 years and have never even recovered the cost of my lifetime membership. I actually closed down my shops towards the latter part of last year and only keep a handful of things listed as the time involved for absolutely no return was soul destroying.

I do occasionally still check out completed listings, but cannot find a single category that show any sales, apart from one or two a month.

I had actually assumed they had given up

I opened an ebay shop instead and am doing quite well, 80% of something is certainly better for me than 100% of no sales at all.

  • I think people have mixed experiences. The fact that they are linked with google shopping is what they have going for them. I started selling in October and have almost made back me membership fee. Ebay is better for selling but they way they treat sellers is appalling and the fees are huge.

You don't have to answer as with so few sales I wouldn't want you to identify yourself, but what categories do you sell in?

I have yet to find any with recordable sales.

Please don't answer if you are the only one who has ever sold in that category- as giving out your user name can cause a lot of issues (as per another thread I am chatting on)

That is three and a half months' work for less than £50 in profit (I hope you don't mean in sales) which is definitely not good enough. Some people make a living on eBay or at least treat it as a part time job. How does that compare to making less than £14 a month?

Anyway, I'm happy for anyone who makes money on Ebid.
