Old style daily thread Tuesday 14th January

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Usual flying visit while getting ready for work.

Keep checking bank account for redundancy but it's not there yet. This plus lack of a P45 is really going to mess up my tax for the rest of this tax year, so need to keep a careful eye on what I may owe or be owed and save accordingly.

Freezer lucky dip tonight, really can't work out what it is so keep your fingers crossed for us :rotfl:

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

  • Morning all!

Been a wee while since I've posted - I have Bipolar Disorder and was in a depressive phase which involved watching TV in bed and eating too much chocolate. Bah! Am feeling much better now and am picking my life back up again :)

    Today's jobs are:

    * Appointment with CPN D
    * Prepare pot to grow basil on windowsill
    * Prepare pot to grow chives on windowsill

Dinner is Sausage 'n' Bean Thing with Mashed Potato 'n' Turnip.

Am hoping I'll get to the gym this evening ...

    Well wishes to all.

  • Good Morning :)

Not been on for a few days, I keep coming on and the thread hasn't started... Obviously getting up way too early!

My DD1 turned 2 yesterday

We made Sunday her birthday so we could all enjoy it, and DD could open her gifts in her own time. We went out for the morning, and just had a great day. Then yesterday we went to soft play with a friend, who stayed for lunch. Then MIL & FIL visited! It was crazy busy as I had 5 loads of washing too!!!

Anyway, it's the end of our 'month' for food on Thursday, and I've run out of oil, and cheese! Oil means we're struggling with making bread, we were trying to use up the freezer stores and crossing fingers we've enough... I can use butter but I have none, and running low on spread, so I'd have to use stork in an emergency :S

Food deliveries due Thursday night :D

Anyway, today I've decided to miss group, as this afternoon DD2 is due her 8 week jabs, and DD1 her flu jab. Then before dinner DD2 has her 6-8 week check at the Drs.

Dinner was supposed to be toad in the hole, but with the Drs appts I think we'll be home too late and will end up with sandwiches... Anyone know if Toad in the Hole reheats ok if I decide to make it this morning?

Hope everyone has a great day x

Ps. TTFTM - Good luck with the freezer dip x
Laura - Glad you're feeling much better

  • Toad in the hole doesn't reheat well. It takes too long to heat the sausages and the Yorkshire burns. You could cook the sausages earlier though. Then just add the batter later to cook tonight.

Morning everyone. Ds1 went back to school yesterday. He's still 'scabby' but mush better.

Not much to say. Off to work in a few minutes. I'll be there until late this evening. Day off tomorrow though.

Glad you're a bit better Laura.
  • Morning all
Icy here this morning, fish fed & hubby has a cuppa in bed.
Hoping to get an appointment with HR today about working less hours, hope it goes ok, if there are any probs my Dr will get involved. Thanks DG, I appreciate your comment.
No cooking for me tonight hubby's on lates so I'll have egg on toast.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Cold and icy here, seems to be a little foggy too. Will be glad to take my own car to work, not so keen on DDs although it had a service and passed its MOT which was good. Will pay for that today and DD can transfer money to my account (may have to remind her!).

Had a really good sleep last night, must have managed 7 hours which is unusual for me but I was extremely tired. Glad as I probably wont get any after tonight with going away with the children from school tomorrow.

Made chicken and chorizo thing (I made it up) yesterday, quite tasty but too much potato for me. I have taken something out of the freezer for DD tonight, I think it may be bolognaise sauce so will just do pasta. Not sure what I want yet.

HH - Hope your meeting goes well, stick to your guns.
Laura - Glad you're feeling better.

Hugs to those feeling down or poorly, take care. XX

    Morning all,

Cold and frosty here but no rain ! Day off today and I need to go and check the wardrobes in the day light and do any touching up that's needed, they have had three coats already, but its too hard to see in the afternoon light especially when the insides are all white.

Hester good luck for today think its a wise move for you xx

Dinner tonight will be something involving sausages might do garlic cubed potatoes and some veg, or mash and veg with gravy. Need to do a wash this morning and will try and get it on the line, I also need to do an online shop.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Light here now, but looks very dull, cloudy and dreich - still wet underfoot and it's not raining at the moment but I don't think it'll stay dry all day.

DH up and gone to work.

Dinner last night was smoked sausage pasta with creme fraiche sauce, was delish as normal. DH has asked me to cut his portion sizes down, which I have, but will just wait to see how long it lasts - he does this every so often!!

Remembered to get the pork chops out of the freezer, so they are now in the fridge, dinner tonight will be pork chops, mash, veg and gravy.

Went to the next town yesterday - was disappointed with the stock in the shops, I think it's because they are coming to the end of the Sales but the new spring stock is not yet in - I didn't find what I was looking for - so was very good and didn't just buy something else "to make do" even though it wasn't really what I wanted or needed. A few years ago, I would have just bought something else for the sake of it - now if it's not exactly right I don't buy it and then regret wasting my money. Was home good time, but then had a strange day - was really unsettled and couldn't focus on anything - hoping today will be a better day - need to crack on and get some chores done, so my time off is not wasted. I did manage to get a couple of jobs done on the pc and some admin work to do with caravanning, and that got sent off. Will do my best today.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

Frost on the cars and slate roofs here, so no wonder it feels chilly.

After holding on for ages I finally got through and my injection pack will be delivered on Thursday. Thank goodness it lasts a month! Can't say the CSA was exactly ...umm...enthusiastic? engaged?awake? but at least it is done.

Off to collect my M&S order, buy some buttons and see what's good in Poundland. Jet set lifestyle, I know!

Another chicken thing from the freezer tonight as it is definitely comfort food weather.

Have fun and stay warm x
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

    Morning all,

Was up early this morning. The doctor thought I may be better on codeine and paracetamol instead of the Tramadol I came out of hospital with , WRONG, I spent the whole night writhing around dozing and waking with the pain, will be ringing shortly for a new prescription.
I'm being looked after today. Mum and dad will arrive shortly and they will pamper me. Mums making cottage pie for tea which is the first food I've looked forward to for ages.
House is reasonably tidy as middle son called yesterday and he takes after his mum, vacced and polished and sorted the washing out for me, he's a love, the youngest is not bad but would never dream of doing anything he wasn't asked to do.
I take my hat off to anyone who has had this op. I'm so frustrated not being able to move easily. I'm exercising every day, slow and steady I suppose.
Bitsy I loved Sherlock too, can't wait for the next series.
Won't see dd and DGS until Friday now so looking forward to a nice quiet week. Had a couple of good eBay and Amazon sales so dh will post those today.
He's mad busy which is s@ds law, it will definitely quieten down once I'm fit and don't need any help!
Anyway off to phone the docs, bfn x
