Please tell us your experience of them hon, that's why I started this thread
I joined the WP was told they get jobs in like recruitment agencies! They then lost on the system for 5 mths and saw no one, went in for one apt once a month that lasted 5 mins (travelled 14 miles round trip to do so), saw 13 different advisors in that time and near the end of the 2 years I was there once a week doing an unsupported job search which is looking on the PC for work and applying like I would here at home but had to waste 3 hours travelling there and back to do so. Had one session on how to set up and LinkedIn Account which lasted 40 mins and as I had already got one I just sat there listening to the others. One 40 mins session on interview technique where the advisor said I knew too much and couldn't answer any more questions and banned me till the end where she had what she thought was a tough one for me haha. People on the same session asking me 'If I was on the WP' as I 'didn't look or speak like I was unemployed'
WP ended and still no job.
For 16,000 on their books just to start they earned themselves £6.4million!!!We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Experiences of the WP? It wasn't with this company.

what happens after you got referred back to the jobcentre, was it just a case of carrying on signing?
oh and your experience sounds exactly like mine, I travel a fair way for a 5 min interview, and once I had to go in just so my adviser could look over an application before I sent it off, email would have done, he made no correction, it took me a 2 hour round trip and I had to convince the bus ticket refund lady that I really had been in to see the adviser even tho I was in and out in 2 mins :rotfl:
Never got to the surfing the pc stage but sure I would have if I had been there longer, the money they get for this is crazy.0 -

I'm nearly at the end of my 2 yr sentence and I've gone from a monthly visit to weekly/fortnightly now (a quick 10 min chat and out - all it ever has been).
I've dodged the 'pc surfing' by telling them I'd rather be sat at home where all my 'notes' are which I constantly refer back to when doing job applications, and besides, I'd rather be sat there with a cup of tea, a ciggie and no distractions. They've not had a problem with this but if they do develop one I shall remind them that I won't be forthcoming in the relevant info if I get a job whilst still with them, and they can sing for any job outcome or sustainment payments. I'll be signing off and disappearing as far as they're concerned.
The only advantage the WP has to me is I can put it down as a job seeking activity in my lil grey booklet for when I go to sign on.
It's no good telling the Job Centre how useless the WP is either, they've heard it all before0 -
Oh great! They sound just as useless as the jobcentre then. Looking on their website they seem really good (of course they would), like you say 'they talk the talk' but I was hoping they would actually be of some help.
As a side note - I can't believe the Jobcentre are so rubbish too, they couldn't give a !!!! if you get a job or not.0 -

as long as they can tick their boxes is all they care about.
all this is about is making it look like the government are doing something, the truth is they need us on the dole to keep wages down, the more people find work, the less people there is to take work the more the wages have to go up to get people to work for them, which increases inflation, it's cheaper to keep 2.5 million on the dole, then have us in work, it's the secret they will not admit too.0 -

well said, I might try that when I ask them for help whilst I wait for my first months pay, if no help I was withdraw my consent for then to contact my employer.0 -
so seems though Shaw Trust is another waste of time for us, could anyone recommend any organisations that do help you get into work?0

I know someone that used these http://www.remploy.co.uk/ he got a full time job and is still in it today, no idea how it works tho.0 -
^ couldn't use Remploy as I'm not disabled. I do need some serious extra help though to get me back into work as I've spent the last year applying for jobs and haven't even got an interview. I mean, whose going to set me on when I've been out of work since 2008 and I've got no references!
I can't afford to go back to college or uni, and I don't really want that anyway, although I am happy to do any training for however long. But I need help to get back into work, as realistically the way things are going I'm never going to get a job again0
