Would it be better to go by train from London to France or ferry?
We will be 3 adults 2 kids,
any recomendations for a cheap long weekend break to somewhere in France?

That depends on what you mean by 'go to France'.
If you want to stay in Calais or the immediate area the ferry is probably cheaper, if you want to go further afield to Lille, Paris, Reims, etc, Eurostar will probably work out cheaper.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

We want to stay in Calais. we are looking at ferry then hotel or hiring a house near the ferry terminal.
I cant seem to find any package deals.
At the moment we are thinking about £70 rtn for the car on the ferry, and about £230 for 2 nights in a nice looking holiday house in Calais.
So about £300 plus fuel and food etc.
Is this a good deal, or are there better options?0 -
If you want to stay at a port, Boulogne and Dieppe are much nicer than Calais.

If you're staying at a port, then traveling on foot, rather than taking the car on the ferry is generally much cheaper.0

You may well find that travelling as foot passengers and then hiring a car for your holiday works out cheaper than bringing your own car.0 -

Yes: Calais is a dump, although there are some nice places nearby (Le Touquet, for example).
If you are willing to travel a bit further (perhaps sail from Portsmouth) then Cherbourg and St Malo are brilliant destinations.0 -
Such a shame there aren't any ferry routes to Boulogne anymore, it's such a nice little town.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Thanks all, yes now looking at other destinations and leaving the car in UK going over foot passengers and staying at the port or near to it.0
