just wondering if there are many folk here who use real nappies?
Ive been thinking of contacting the powers that be to see about holding a nappaccino (an informal coffee shop location to show, demo and chat about nappies) once a month or so in Belfast somewhere but havent a clue what the demand for something like this would be. So yes really just wondering if many folk in N.ireland use cloth nappies or would be interested in finding out more about using them?

I've used them for 4 years now for my two children and I love them although I suppose now I'm so used to using them that I don't really think about it much. I'm coming to the end of my nappy changing days as my youngest is two and will hopefully be potty trained in the forseeable future.
There is a company here called Blooming Bottoms that operates from St Geroges Market on a Saturday - have you heard of them? They have a website and do the odd promotional thing and are worth contacting about events so you don't overlap.
Good luck!Stercus accidit0 -
I used real nappies for a while at the start, theres a few people in the belfast area use them, I have a feeling theres a real nappy forum in RVH, I'll check netmums for you. Just wondered why it has to be belfast?! I remember i was put off the RVH thing as it's all based in belfast.
Maybe you should think about lollipop too!

it was because of them i decided to become a nappy rep lol. No offence to them, i think they mean well but they messed up my order twice and there is still a flaw on their new site which they refused to believe me was different from the old one! Its a case of they are selling brand new and preloved prefolds at the same price! why oh why would you pay the same price for new and used?? anyways i still bought my original pack of them but when i heard another girl saying how they messed up her order too i thought stuff it ill sign up to be an advisor so i can help people get what they want and need with less hassle lol (also i was gutted that blooming bottoms didnt bother to turn up to the baby show for whatever reason - i believe the big baby show where rather narked too).
rant over lol
what im after would be more informal than them though. Nappachinos are popular all over England, i just think if we could it would be nice to have one in good old n.ireland0 -

Really wow, I'm down the road and felt there was no local info when I used them at the start, I got all my info online from parenting sites and thenappylady website.
I gave up with them fairly early I hope you are really successful you know its a great thing to do, contact the local councils or surestart and have meets that way!

Oh netmums , join up then you have to go to coffee house chat for the forums or go to the home page and click to NI on the map and it'll take you to the local pages, havent used it in ages myself

ive been signed up for ages, but i gave up because when i go to the coffeehouse it just logs me out, i just go in circles if i try to get on it lol.
Aww shame there was no advisors around to help you I think im the first one in N.Ireland for lollipop - i live in Co Armagh but cover here to bangor and the surrounding areas if i can get to them. Whats worse is im leaving the country soon for a move to liverpool to complete uni so ill only be here for a few days once a month, hence wanting to sort out an event or 2 i can hold once a month to help folks who feel a bit lost with nappies0 -

I know what you mean about BB. I volunteered for them briefly and found the whole thing to be very disorganised - the head didn't like to relinquish control but liked going to England for half the summer leaving everything in chaos! I often thought that if someone with a bit of business acumen set up in competition they could do really well.
As you know, the nappies are really easy to use (and you do tend to fall in love with them), they're cheaper long term and landfill friendly so there are few downsides (until you get to the toddler stage but by then there's no going back!)
Today I've got my little girl in a disp because she was at a surestart playgroup (they looked a bit horrified when I said she wore cloth) and it smells of chemicals - I can't wait to get it off her.Stercus accidit0 -
i cant really use dispos anyway, they tend to leave a red bottom same with wipes so we are still on cotton wool and water 6 months on (although huggies pure arent too bad for her bum). Lol i love the horrified look of "oh my goodness you use those? why when you can use disposables?!" always makes me giggle and then i tend to "inform" them of the benifits lol - why have something that is more cotton like when you can HAVE cotton?
i agree competition for BB would do rather well if they had business skills. I had thought they would be great as a not for profit org and so wanted to support them, still glad i did or id not have got into cloth, just wish they where better at how they did their job0 -
I'm a real nappy fan too, and I'm interested to see what people are saying about Blooming Bottoms. I've been waiting for a couple of weeks for them to send out my order to me (I'm exchanging smaller nappies for bigger ones). There is no sign of them, I think they have just forgotten. But they are nearly impossible to get hold of on the phone.0
