    Groundhog Day?

Come on, stop with the petrol price cut stories...or at least balance things out by writing about every price increase.

A 'cap' is only worth something if it has a length of time attached to it.

Imagine a capped mortgage sold as 'we'll cap your rate at 3.99% (cap guaranteed until a month after your mortgage starts)'. That's not a capped mortgage, it's a variable rate mortgage.

    This isn't a cap, it's a price cut.

Perhaps the Asda term of a 'roll back' of recent, unannounced prices rises would be even more appropriate :)

Asda today (Monday 13th January) announced it would be cutting fuel by up to 2 pence per litre bringing its lowest price on diesel since July 2012.

From tomorrow morning (Tuesday 14th January) drivers filling up at any of Asda’s 229 forecourts nationwide will benefit from the retailer’s new national price cap on diesel and unleaded, meaning motorists will pay no more than 133.7 pence per litre for diesel and 126.7 pence per litre on unleaded.

Andy Peake, Asda’s Petrol Trading Director said: “With the latest price cut we’re now seeing the lowest price on diesel since July 2012...

That's odd, because I have a receipt here for diesel purchased from Asda in November 2013 and that cost 133.7 pence per litre.

Edit: in fact 2 separate purchases - one on the 7th and one on the 17th

Asda has raised petrol and diesel prices at least twice in the last two weeks, so maybe just putting them back where they started. MSE should have more sense than to keep publishing this twaddle.

stupid story , why do you print it , pre xmas it was 126.9 , now its 128.9 and it might go down for a few days and then they put it back up again , Tesco does not even join in , their price is dependant on location !
What a waste of time reporting it ...unless someone is prepared to offer a lowest price guarantee its not news .
By printing this rubbish you are almost joining the cartel

Anyone else noticed that all the supermarkets quietly upped the price of their fuel 1p on a litre this week?

Strange how there was no big announcement
Even stranger that the increase occurred at all, what with crude oil prices (in USD) falling and the GBP gaining in strength against the USD.
Suppose it might be a case of supply & demand, what with everyone going back to work in their cars after the Christmas break and all the lorries getting back on the road.

Perhaps there'll be another big announcement of how the supermarkets are helping us all slash the cost of motoring in these austere times by knocking 1p off a litre soon?
Towards the end of this month perhaps?

It would not be so bad if they did actually put it down to that price, my local certainly did not in December, only went to 127.7p.
