I can think of a potential violent outcome to that.Rodney_Trotter wrote: »Five pints and try to drive home, can't think of any violence in that. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

I didn't misquote you as such, the added bit is clearly another colour. You seem to have some problem working out probable outcomes and understanding speculation. Do you live in a world of absolutes? All black and white and no colour or grey? The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Whilst I see the point you're making, 'Violent' (in its legal/criminal definition, which is thye context in which this discussion arose from) is the wrong word to use when describing drink drivers or the act of drink driving.0

You drive home whilst over the limit without incident. That's one possibility where's the violence?
I don't know why you put ' try to'.0 -

Presumably just in jest given the heightened probability that they wont actually make it0 -

Exactly.
The violence could happen when the impaired driver hit's another car, or a pedestrian, when they struggle with the police. When their excessive bleating of "I shouldn't be here" annoys one of the other detainees at the cop shop after someone with a bit of sense reports them, when they attempt to make off and are physicaly restrained by the arresting officer. So many possibilities. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Does this mean that someone who is caught shoplifting a 50p newspaper should be charged as a violent offender?
After all, when the shopkeeper challenges them the accused shoplifter could punch the shopkeeper in an attempt to escape.
You could add the"could' "might" and "what if" arguments to just about any discussion but in reality they don't really mean anything in most cases.0 -
Thank you all for your posts. Your comments have been very useful. Since reading them it has helped me to deal with the insurance company. After asking them to look at all the info they have recorded on my claim, it seems that I do have a credit hire car from the third party insured. I have asked that I continue to have this while the claim is in dispute over the amount of settlement. It will be reviewed on the 20th and I'm hoping I will still get to have it if claim isn't settled. I have asked about the petrol again and pushed to claim as an uninsured loss. They have now referred it to solicitor for them to review. I'm not sure if I should continue down this path but I do have legal cover and had nearly £40 fuel in tank.
Regarding it being a violent crime, people will agree and disagree. But I do find it disturbing that he got willingly in a vehicle to drive it knowing he was 3 times over the legal limit on the scene of the incident and as a result going into 3 parked cars.0 -

You get online dictionaries too, they show definitions like this;-
Any crime could result in violence, but for crime recording purposes and common sense excess alcohol is not a violent crime.0
