Smartphone SD card

  • I've just received a Samsung Galaxy Ace La Fleur from my daughter for Christmas. The pre-installed apps take up most of the memory; you can't move anything to the external SD card - I have discovered through internet research that there is an internal SD card, which is where anything you send to the 'SD' card is stored, taking up even more of the very small internal memory.
I have found that the phone memory fills up rapidly when you receive texts and I had to keep deleting them as they came in; I also had to clear the cache of everything possible to clear a meagre 24mbs of space, and, even then, I couldn't receive texts.
Apparently, this problem cannot be resolved without 'rooting' the phone (which I wouldn't advise anyone without technical knowledge to attempt) as the pre-installed apps continue to update and consume what little space you may have.
My daughter spent a lot of money on this phone from Car Phone Warehouse, who suggest I take it to the shop and they will send it back to the manufacturer, but a broad sweep of internet reviews has informed me that retailers do not seem to accept any responsibility. In my opinion, this phone is not fit for purpose and I will be seeking advice from Trading Standards, as I do not see this as being any different from any other appliance that does not do what it claims to do.
I would be glad to hear if anyone has successfully resolved this issue without rooting, as this apparently invalidates the warranty.

You can root android phones/tablets very easily using a piece of software on the pc called Kingo android root. My partner had a Samsung Galaxy Ace and I had an HTC explorer and both had a pathetic amount of internal memory.

Once rooted, you will be able to use apps such as apptosd or linktosd to store apps on an external sd card (opposed to the inbuild sd card).
