Low cost Valentine meal ideas?

Options
Hi

I wondered if anyone had got any low cost ideas for a Valentines meal?
We have no dietary requirments and like most foods, but I'm struggling to think of what to cook.

Cheers

How about chicken & bacon stuffed breasts. Make an incision on one side of the breast, stuff it with a strong cheddar cheese, then use some smoked bacon and wrap it around the chicken, sealing the incision. Yummy! Serve it with baby roasts and a salad.
  • Chicken Livers on a fresh green salad to start.
Stuffed Peppers (with mince and rice and veg), with asparagas shoots and new potatoes
    Home made apple pie.

One of my favourite meals to cook is Prawn Linguine because it's not something most people eat every day and seems a lot more complicated than it actually is!

Sweat 1 small onion and 2 cloves of garlic in a pan.

Throw in a pack of ready cooked king prawns and tin of chopped tomatoes

Then you just add black pepper, a pinch of chilli powder, mixed herbs, a finely grated carrot, fish stock cube and let it simmer away for 15 minutes or so adding water or cornflour to get it to the right thickness while you cook some dried linguine.

The key to this one is the fish stock as it really makes a difference.

I normally serve it up with a shop bought garlic ciabbata which I tear into chunks and place on a wooden chopping board with some grated parmesan.

A few candles on the table and job done!
  • Thanks all some lovely ideas :)
  • Why bother cooking - you could go out on the cheap with a voucher? I saw this page on Facebook called LottoByText giving away a dinner voucher for Carluccio's? Might be worth a punt.

Do a stiryfry with noodles at home, using a cheating jar for sauce (Ald!'a are great) and finish with "rigged" fortune cookies:

(All this New Year info flying round... I'm still waiting for someone to explain how to say "I love you" in suet dumplings! May have to traybake, which I think spoils the dumplings *&* risks discovery...)

  • Hi, just wondered if anyone knows if any stores are doing Valentines meal deals? Last year M and S did a good one!

It might be a bit too early for the Valentine's meal offers, but there's news of the £9 Morrison's one coming up, on the main site of MSE here. ;)
