Economical Car Lease Required for work?

Apart from the likes of a Yaris hybrid I doubt if any auto will give you 60mpg in the real world.
Plenty of autos should give 45mpg in day to day use, that will only add about £50 pm to your costs, but you should be able to pick a good one up for £4-5,000 and still have a car worth £2-3000 in 2 years time?I am a mortgage adviser. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. OK the advice if leasing is go for the deal and not the car. The trouble is small efficient cars are in demand and therefore not great lease propositions and can be picked up more economically if paying cash from say an online broker.
This +1 especially when you read the lease price for a 135i!!!!!, always go for the deal, popular models in demand will always carry a premium over models that aren't shifting.0 -
Why will a lease car use less fuel than a £5k car?
Why will it cost more in maintenance? It could cost much less because you wont be tied to using genuine parts. You can use OEM ones instead. Same part same manufacturer but not in an expensive box.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Some of the newer cars like the new prius and skoda rapid claim to give around 60mpg.
Do you know of any 2nd hand cars that are around there and cheap to insure/maintain?London, UK0 -
What I meant in terms of finance not being suitable for me was that ethically I avoid it due to the interest rates.
I can afford to pay for a 10k car now however I rather pay 5-6k over the next 2 years but save on fuel, maintenance and tax.
My aim is to get a car, that can achieve 60mpg+ combined while trying to keep the overall cost's down.

I used to have a Citroen Visa which they claimed would do 70 mpg in normal use. The best I ever got was 40, even keeping the little green light on (or whatever the gizmo was). You need to find out real-world figures from actual owners.
I would seriously doubt that you could get 60 mpg from any automatic car, unless it was some ludicrously expensive hybrid. Real world example, my wife's Focus (Tdci diesel with the dual-clutch automatic) got 28 mpg in local runs, driven gently. Not the lightest or most economical car, but indicative. A friend has a manual Prius and gets around 50 mpg in mixed driving.

I am looking to get around 60mpg on A roads that I will be traveling at 40-60mph on average which will also include congestion.
With congestion, 60 mpg in a (presumably diesel) automatic seems a pretty big ask. Have a nose here to see what sort of fiugres are achievable:

Sorry, missed this when I posted. All sensible suggestions, although none of the automatics manage 60 mpg, the best being 55 mpg.0 -
