Economical Car Lease Required for work?

I am starting work soon and looking to get a very economical Automatic car to travel to and back from work.

I am going to average around 350miles a week of driving.

The car has to have an auto gear box.

Any suggestions please?

    Define economical?

Youe mileage is higher than standard lease terms and your auto gear box requirement could increase the cost again. Can you get finance if this is your first job?

I suspect a lease will not be for you.
  • I am looking to get around 60mpg on A roads that I will be traveling at 40-60mph on average which will also include congestion.

Finance is not really an option for me.

It can often be difficult to identify cars with an automatic transmission which are also economical to run. This list of most economical automatic cars shows the Top 20 models available today in the UK. The data is sorted by MPG and shows details on MPG, CO2 g/km, Tax Band and Next Green Car’s unique Green Car Rating.

    Top car- VAUXHALL Ampera 1.4 16v VVT V6 Positiv ECOTEC E-REV Auto - 235mpg.

Not sure if electric car would be as practical as maybe a Toyota Yaris Hybrid?

If you can't get finance then you will be unable to lease. Also what happens if you don't make it through your probationary period and lose the job (perhaps through no fault of your own) you will still have 3-4 years of leasing to pay for.

What you want to try and get is reliable banger (which could easily be an oxymoron so you need to be careful) for 6-12 months then reassess.

(I am making a lot of assumptions based on limited information here but suspect I am on the right track)
  • What I meant in terms of finance not being suitable for me was that ethically I avoid it due to the interest rates.

I can afford to pay for a 10k car now however I rather pay 5-6k over the next 2 years but save on fuel, maintenance and tax.

My aim is to get a car, that can achieve 60mpg+ combined while trying to keep the overall cost's down.

If you can afford to spend £10k on a car now. Buy one for a quarter of that price and have plenty of money in the bank in case it goes wrong.

£5 or 6k over 2 years.. Even if you buy a £5k car it wont lose £5 or 6k in value over 2 years.

Spend £3k a year and have nothing to show for it?

a 5k car maybe cheaper but in terms of maintenance and especially fuel costs, over 2 years I will end up paying far more due to how many miles I will be travelling each year.

If I get a car on lease and spend maybe 5-6k over 2 years, I would surely save half the costs on fuel (on my current car I would be averaging around £60 a week).

On a newer car that achieves 60mpg+ it would be £30 a week.
That's the angle I am looking at it from, plus anything goes wrong it would be covered or less likely to go wrong.

OK the advice if leasing is go for the deal and not the car. The trouble is small efficient cars are in demand and therefore not great lease propositions and can be picked up more economically if paying cash from say an online broker.

One option perhaps worth looking at is one of the just add fuel deals (but again probably not the cheapest method).

If I were in your shoes I would be looking at pre-reg or demo up to 1-2 years old and you will still have some warranty should anything be amiss.

Worth looking at the Panda, great residuals bomb proof but might not get 60mpg, but how many will.

How about the Toyota Prius Hybrid or as mentioned above the Vauxhall?
I am happy to get a pre reg or ex demo car if it fits the criteria!
