Variations in amount of wood delivered.

I realise log deliveries are measured in volume as oppose to weight, but we are short by quite a large amount compared to the previous delivery. Our wood store holds 1.7 cubic m. We ordered 2 cubic m of logs on both occasions. The first one filled our wood store with a large pile left over. This time our wood store is short by just under a quarter. Did contact the supplier who said this was the first complaint he'd had on short deliveries.

Had it filled the wood store we would have been happy with that. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

  • There's always a load of room for variation with logs. The size of the wood, the way they're loaded, the way you end up stacking them etc etc. Another plus for briquettes - order a tonne and you'll get 1000 briquettes - this year, next year, whenever. Every single one of them will be the same moisture level too - so you always know in advance exactly what you're going to get.
  • Agree with Greenfires, I would never buy logs from a dealer, you never know what you're gonna get.
Think about trying Briquettes or Smokeless Coal if you have a multi fuel stove.

Curious to know, how much did you pay for the 2 cubic metre load?

The problem with briquettes is that they come on a pallet and are more expensive than logs. I plan to order my logs in late winter/early spring to be stacked for the next year. That way I know it's seasoned.
  • If you look at the amount of heat you get from briquettes - they usually work out cheaper in real terms...
  • Home Bargains have 10kg bags of "coal" to use in smokeless zone areas for £3.99. Suitable for use on multi fuel stoves
  • We do have a bag of Taybrite but have only used it a couple of times when I'm going to be away from the fire for a while to keep it going. Its really to get us through this season as we have collected a large amount for next year so hopefully will have enough not to have to buy any.
