Dismissal, references and what to put on job applications

OR could I put that I worked for them for 6 months but NOT use them as a reference?
Help needed ASAP please as this needs to be in by tonight.0 -
Hi dark night
I would include them on your application form - as the 6 m gap would need explaining and your reasons for leaving your previous role. I would be tempted not to use them as a reference if you don't have to. This way you include the skills and experiences of the role, which might get you through the short listing to interview stage.
Good luck0 -

Were you really 'dismissed' or can you phrase it that you were let go at the end of the probationary period.Make £2025 in 2025

Should I leave the job I was dismissed from off the application?
Or put it on and take my chances with the reference? baring in mind that my old employee's will give me a good reference, which should hopefully balance it out.
If I put it on my application, what am I supposed to put for "Reason for leaving"? is 'contact ended' ok seeing as technically my contract was ended.....sounds better than 'dismissed'?
email them and ask about the reference, if it's a no go, then simply leave them off the application.
if they are willing to supply a good or at lest a neutral reference, the do as you say and put the reason for leaving was end of contract.
It would take a nasty person to not give you at least a neutral reference, just ask them the situation, then you will know, whether to include them on applications or not.0 -

Exactly, that is why I'm being careful.
It does say "reason for leaving". I've put "contract ended" which is accurate as they did end my contract.0 -

So put that I worked there under the employment bit (because like I said, the job is very relevant to the one I am applying for) but DON'T use them as a reference? because that is what I am leaning to at the moment. I have two previous employers I can use as references. Does this sound ok? it does not state that one of the references must be my current or most recent employer.0 -
no you can not dictate who you have as a reference if the new company want all references especially a ref from your last job.the_darkknight wrote: »So put that I worked there under the employment bit (because like I said, the job is very relevant to the one I am applying for) but DON'T use them as a reference? because that is what I am leaning to at the moment. If the jobs are relevant it sounds like you have something to hide if you do not use the last job as a ref. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
