Tenerife - Booking flights & accom separately

Hi
We ususally go on holiday by booking as a package holiday through one provider. Having looked around a lot we can save over £600 if we book our flights direct with Norwegian airlines and then our accomodation only through Travel republic. We would be paying on a credit card. Are we putting ourselves at more risk doing it this way? The hotel we would be staying at is part of a chain, we stayed in another of their hotels last year so shouldn't have any problems on that front. Would welcome any thoughts please?
Thanks in advance

Cover yourself with decent travel insurance and enjoy the fact that you've saved so much money!
When you look at the times in recent years where holiday makers have been left stranded abroad, it's been down to package holiday providers going bust or acts of nature, the ash cloud, etc. You've made yourself the master of how this holiday goes. You're familiar with the place your travelling to, and I assume you're happy to do the airport transfers yourself. I'd be surprised if you ever book a package holiday again.0 -
Why do you want to book through Travel Republic for the accommodation?
If possible book with the hotel/complex directChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
Hi
We have booked flights & accom separately for many years now in Tenerife and have never had a problem. As stated above do get good TI just incase a problem {health ect} was to happen but apart from that I cannot see any reason why not saving what is a large amount of hard earned cash for your holiday.
Just go ahead and enjoy a well earned holiday :0)

It is worth the OP checking how much it is booking direct though0 -

I've found this to be true.
You can save a lot by using TR or Alpharooms rather than booking direct with the hotel0 -
Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated. We have looked at booking directly with the hotel as we signed up to one of their loyalty schemes where we get every 7th night free. Even with this however, it was considerably cheaper booking the accommodation not directly with them. In the end we have booked the accommodation through cordial resorts as they have a free upgrade to half board offer on at the moment. All booked now, was nervous as have always done package hols in the past but this may be the new way forward!0

It would have to be an awful lot cheaper before I'd trust my holiday to TR and even then I'd be hesitant given their appalling customer service and lack of control you get over the bookingChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -

Far, far too many horror stories of people having booked through Travel Republic only to find the hotel closed/not booked/wrong hotel/room cancelled a week before departure etc., for me to trust them with my family holiday.
Probs worth the risk for a few nights city break where you can still find a room at a decent hotel on arrival if it all goes wrong, but I'd trust them with no more than that.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

I've also been granted every accommodation 'special request' I've asked for, eg quiet room, sea/pool view, high floor, etc.
Maybe I've been lucky!?0
