Well... Yeah, but I'm starting to see some improvements to my back nownot huge but small gradual improvements all count and I'll take them if it means I can get back to work.
Once I return to work then it's a case of doing whatever I can to keep the improvements coming and ensure that I continue to get stronger!
More than anything at the moment though I'm worried about what happens when I get older? I have no confidence that the government/council will do anything to help me if I get into problems, despite what the council website for York says the estate manager seems adamant that when Mum "goes" I am in no way a priority regardless of my health issues.
If I lost my job, if I lost Mum, if I was to be totally reliant on benefits then right now I get the distinct impression that I would be homeless... There are no council properties, the private rents even in the grottiest areas of the city are at least £25 more per week than any housing benefit I would ever receive so I would be trapped slowly ageing with nothing to look forward to... Cheery eh?
That's a big incentive for me to do whatever it takes and while it is a 'worst case scenario' I'm going to do whatever I can to avoid it

Well, any idea of a discretionary benefit from my employer is off the table since Occ Health reported that I should be able to make a return to work but need support and flexibility and the option of heavily reduced hours to accommodate any issues arising from my back... This has been read as I can and therefore should return and they will find "suitable" work but not at the hours/pay that I'm currently and in a location to suit them on so if I don't return then it's my choice and they don't believe that this makes me eligible
Luckily, I intend to try to get back anyway but it was a bit of a kick in the teeth when I was originally told that I would be a strong candidate based on my past (good) performance, current health problems and current role but now as they're being made to bend over backwards to accommodate me they'd rather get me doing something else instead? They also went on to say that the voice recognition software suggested by OH wouldn't be suitable for the office - not sure if this counts as them refusing to implement OH's suggestions to enable me to return though? LOL
Anyway, other than being a bit of a kicker I don't really mind... If I try and am able to get back full time then fantasticif not then I know they will have to give good grounds to dismiss me and then I'll be on the old benefits which are sh*t but I'm slowly starting to get to grips with (even if they will stop when I return and I'll have to re-apply when I am given the push)...
Lets get this rubbishy year out of the way, draw a line in the sand and get the new year off to a flier! HURRAH!

C'mon, it's worth a shot. You hate not being able to work so give it a go and we will all be here cheering you on. Plus do a screen print of the council website and, if you want further comfort, direct your enquiry via a local councillor.Mortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 11st 12lb determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. Go for it and try your best with it. If you can't manage it then shout at your employer at the earliest time
Thankfully I do not have any sort of health issue (of which I am aware) but like you I am eternally p*ssed about. If you can, then go with a way to get to work and earn a 'crust.' Everybody feels better for that......even my wife :rotfl:!!!!!!!!!!
Give it a shot.

LOL, cheers amigoscome what may I'm going in because even if it quickly becomes obvious I'm shafted I can just be rubbish, take their money and if they bin me off I'll have a little 'something something' in my back pocket
I reckon I'll be fine though, I've been told I won't be going immediately into my 'actual' role as I need to get up to speed and used to using the new software required for the role so I'll be doing my old job for a bit which I as good as invented so it'll give me a chance to shine as they've obviously missed meAn early new year ?ok, lets go for it, hogmany is one of my fave nights ! Saturday 15/11/14;
Gahhh!!! I got a letter today (the 15th) dated the 7th telling me that my last medical certificate ran out on the 3rd!!!!!!!!!
I sent them my latest certificate on the 30th of October so I'm hopeful that after allowing for the 10 day processing time needed by them that there is just an overlap but how bonkers is that? And, I tried to call but got the message that their offices are closed (I guess it is the weekend) but my next ESA is due into my account on Monday... BUT for the last few payments it's been paid on the Saturday before (I.e. that would be today this time) and nothing has gone in LOL
I'm so glad I'm not entirely reliant on them for income...
