Xbox purchases made by son. What are my rights?

    1. My son assumed it was included in his xbox live a/c. You don't know him; we do. He's distraught as he genuinely had no idea.
    2. Of course, but why would I expect that the default position would be to allow a person known my Xbox to be a 12yo to spend money without my receiving at least a notification
    3. No, 14 pages. If you read 14 page legal documents every time you say OK on a PC you're a better man than I.
    4. Interesting definition of "default". "Default" means that THEY let it be so and that it was up to me to change it.

Pretty obvious there was a cost.

Just to add, it would be about £12 cheaper not to buy direct from microsoft for live if u do it yearly.

I thought they did provide notification it just went to a "special" email account you set up which you never read!

It went to my son's account. They had mine (cardholder) they had my son's. They notified my son. And, as mentioned, we set one up specially and didn't look at it again.
  • Anyway, I've started another thread. As someone pointed out the circumstances are different from the OP.

So before rushing to judgment, is it reasonable that the default setting for a 12-year-old's account is to allow them to use their parent's credit account without the parent even receiving an email to tell them that their money had been spent?

If you gave the xbox credit card details, it doesn't store different details for different users.

Me and my partner have an xbox and it has his card details. If I make a purchase it debits his account after a pop-up comes up telling me I should have bill payers permission. Your son knew - he just had buyers remorse.

Thinking about that, who did he think was paying the £300 bill for all the downloads? If you make a purchase, after selecting it a pop-up comes up saying "your card will be charged the following amount: £??" And you then have to press 'purchase' for a second time.

If you're not just the OP again, that is.

Yet another parent wanting to blame anyone else other than their own son and their inadequate parenting.

I simply cannot believe your rudeness and sheer cheek.

Are you really accusing the Op of being a bad parent because she let her son play on the Xbox and made a mistake with the parental control settings?

In reality, the blame lies entirely with the OP and/or the son.

No I accused the Op of trying to shift the blame to Microsoft, when in fact both the child and parent are to blame, in credit to MS they gave a partial refund which they didn't have to do.
