If a customer paid their bill in full and personally handed me £5 as a tip for me then I fail to see what right the employer has to take it from me.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Hi paddedjohn,
That's exactly what I thought he said to her as he gave her it this is for you. She thought she was doing the right thing handing her tips over thinking they would be split by everyone only to be told thanks you dont get tips. She is suppose to working again next Saturday if it was me I would stick the tips in my pocket and not tell them, But she is 16 years old and would be scared in-case they said anything to her.
I wish her mum could find out who the man was that left the tip because I am sure he would not be best pleased knowing that she didnt get it.

You are employed to perform a service for your employer. All fruits of that service are owned by your employer.0 -
            Hi everyone,
Ive got a quick question wonder if anyone can help. My friends daughter did a bit of waiting on tables tonight. One of the customers gave her a cash tip at the end of their meal and said to her this is for you. The manager of the restaurant took it of her and told her she did not get tip.
Is this correct??????
thanks
Lynda
make sure that if she gets a tip again and the customer says 'this is for you' get her to say 'I don't get it' and see how fast the customer takes is back.Hi paddedjohn,

The customer should not be deceived by the company if they think they are leaving tips for staff.

hi Denning,
Sorry but I have to disagree with that one. If I was sitting down to a meal and had good service from the staff and I left a tip I would be raging if I thought the employer was taking this for their own gain. I will certainly from now on be asking where tip money goes because if I thought this was happening I would no longer be tipping. I am tipping for good service not to line the employers pockets.

Exactly, if I paid my bill and handed the waitress a couple of quid for herself as far as im concerned that's hers and if she has an agreement to share her tips then that's her choice.
If however I paid by card and added a few quid on then id ask where that went to.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
            hi padded john,
That very thing happened to us on Christmas Eve took kids to cinema then went to a well know restaurant chain ate our meal got the bill and there was a 10% charge on top of the cost of the meal. There were 3 family's involved here and we were working out what we all had to pay. We all paid our bill with seperate debit cards. We were then going to leave a cash tip when we suddenly thought oh what happens to the 10% that was added to our bill. So we asked the waiter said oh I get that, needless to say the cash tip went straight back in our purses.
If there was no service charge and I was leaving a cash tip I would be raging if it was going to the employer and not the person who gave me the good service.

            hi
just had a thought I wonder if the employer declares the tips that they receive of their employees to the tax.
