No I don't work business to business. I work in a care environment and say for instance a resident needs a pair of shoes / to travel somewhere or needs furniture and this person is supervision on that particular day. The resident is oblivious and easily led hence they are in the environment they are in, this person may well direct me towards her brothers / friends shoe shop / taxi firm or furniture store. The item(s) need to be bought but they are paying a premium for a particular brand.
The shift will go to the next available person on the list - sometimes me, sometimes not. Here they are often worried about cancelling a such short notice and so anyone will do. As long as the Manager isn't concerned as a result of being short staffed, then nothing tends to be said. I've tried to create a "problem" in the past by declining to step-in but that hasn't been effective either.0 -
I wouldn't work somewhere that acted as unprofessionally as that
I go to work to use my skills to provide the company a service, not jump through hoops and play games. I can't stand people that abuse management positions0 -
if it were me I'd be looking very hard to change - better job with a better employer? The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0

I'm working on it as we speak.... However, having spoken with others much of care / support organisations seems to have similar issues. In fact, I would imagine many companies have the similar issues; too many cooks, I think is the saying.0

You don't need to be confrontational to get your point across.
Just say it how it is and don't bring personal stuff into it as emotions don't tend to help when getting a point across. If she starts being mouthy then do the broken record trick and keep telling her the rota speaks for itself.
I wouldn't mention other people moaning as, in my experience, many colleagues have a habit of speaking out in private and then melting into the background and leaving you facing the music when push comes to shove! Often it's the loudest ones who won't back you up too!0 -
I saw on the news recently that Mencap had to pay some of their residents back a lot of money when it came to light the staff were abusing their positions (eg taking the resident to a bingo hall where lots of money was spent and the resident was incapable of actually playing bingo).
I would think potential whistleblowing might be in order unless it is just minor differences in cost.
A relative of mine works in the care sector and left several homes due to not being able to ignore the mismanagement, slack attitudes and general incompetence.
They have now found a great place where everybody gets paid a good rate and everybody does their job to the best of their abilities. Relative believes it is mainly to do with the manager in place as to how a nursing home is run.
Move with your feet. If you have mentioned the problems YOU will be the one who is forced out eventually anyway I think.
Good luck in finding somewhere better x0 -

The thing is that the manager has attempted to argue that the current state is fair; as Y has received XX number of hours, while I've received XXX number of hours. I don't know how to argue my point really that its not a matter of balancing it out for us all, but in distributing whats available fairly.
She was a little off when I saw X earlier today, Y also didn't pop into the office as she does generally either. I'm a little worried that X has told Y I have a problem with her or is going to the manager claiming I've harassed her in some way / want ALL available hours / am being unreasonable.
Honestly standard behavior for adults is suspended in this place.
It is relatively small amounts of money, really. But given the chance I have no doubt it could escalate. Its true its the manager who sets the tone; it seems to be the problem in working with people who just need a job, as opposed to want to work in xxx as they take every opportunity to take the !!!!!!
I intend to move with my feet.0 -

Small or not, it's fraud and you have a duty to report it.
Easier said than done I know, but you could be in hot water too if it ever comes out and they find out you knew and kept quiet.0 -
Unfortunately I believe this is a problem inherent in the sector rather than isolated to your particular care home. I'm not saying they're all the same but there appears to be a lot of this.
I might get flamed for saying this but here goes, in my experience the great carers were people who like OP seemed to have been in a place for a long time. Certainly when a relative moved in for palliative care the same care team from ten years ago was petty much still there. Anyway, there are an awful lot of people who go into the sector because they don't need qualifications and will be trained, adding in that most try to work locally; it's not that they want to be a carer. I believe this is what adds to the problems OP is facing.
Hugs OP have you thought about maybe moving roles into a hospital based environment as a healthcare assistant?0 -
Why do you not contact the CQC? (Care Quality Commission - their website is http://www.cqc.org.uk/ - you can at least set wheels in motion.0
