bo concept have lots of differing tables in your sizes including extending. Contemporary feel

They are a bit designer and expensive but not top dollar.

I really liked a Neptune oak extending table at a local showroom, until the saleswoman showed me the colour it would go within around 6 months (yellow) and told me that I'd have to keep the extra leaves out of the table so that they would "yellow together".

I'm not paying top dollar for a table that turns yellow within 6 months and can't use the internal storage for the extra bits!

Top marks to the saleswoman, an honest statement. All wood fades at different rates ,,,,,,, yellow ???
You find a real wood table with internal storage and YOU will have problems.

It was a very pale oak table which was gorgeous. The yellow thing next to it looked hideous. We're talking about a £2000 dining set.

I don't understand what you mean by this.

furl.co.uk make some amazing multifunctional tables, especially their range of coffee tables and console tables (shown below) that turn into full dinning with seating for 8,10 and 12 guests.

If it wasn't for the present Ferry problems,It would be your best option to pop over to France and visit virtually any Depot Vente and you will find plenty of oak dining tables in various styles and also with a pair of leaves stored inside. Usually on sale at prices from 300euros upwards. You can look up the stock of some Depot Vente's on line. Well made and a lot better to look at than some of the horrendous heavy legged things on sale in UK stores. I often wonder if some designers/manufacturers actually try sitting on a chair at various points around these tables.
    Bon Chance.
