They haven't given you a large credit limit.
They haven't given you any credit at all.
    They have rejected your application.

You really need to understand what it was that caused them so much concern as to reject your application. Credit card companies are not in the habit of rejecting new customers for no reasons - something must have spooked them, and whatever it is will probably spook any other company you attempt to gain credit from.

Check your credit files from all 3 agencies to start with to see if there is something there that is cause for concern.

Like i said i worked in unsecured lending at A&L years ago. So i understand the process: accepted/declined and, further information required.

    They accepted the application.

Sent me a card, with a letter to say here's you new card with your £10k credit limit.
  • What salary did you put down on the application? and what was the credit limit that they initial allocated to you? if you don't mind me asking.

    £60k & £10k

With the experience you claim, one would have thought you'd know you can't spend any money on the card until you activate it.

And you can't activate it, so my previous comment stands.

You have not been given a credit card £10k limit
You've not been given a credit card with any limit.
They have rejected your application for credit.

Like I also said, and would hope you would know with the experience you claim to have in these matters, you should look to find out why they have rejected your credit application as it's likely whatever it was they didn't like will be seen by anyone else you seek a credit agreement with, and they too could well refuse you.
(If the information on your credit files is wrong, then that can be corrected/erased)

Yeah, if you are sent a card with a letter confirming the credit limit that equates to rejected for credit.;)

There are quite a few threads here on the forum, where members have reported that it did happened to them.

One would think, Barclaycard could sort-out their flawed application procedure.......:D

Maybe, if they are unsure or have some doubt, they say yes so you don't go elsewhere whilst they make their final decision? Then hit you with the death blow when you try to activate?

What you don't seem to understand (or be prepared to acknowledge) is that barclaycard seem to be the only ones doing this. There have been reports of being even being able to use their card for a short time before the account is cancelled. It does not indicate something has "spooked" them, it's just the way they do things.

It's not unreasonable for someone to believe they have secured the product when firstly, the application on screen tells them they have been accepted and secondly, it arrives at their door. To phone up and then be told your product has been cancelled - and wait for it, the icing on the cake - given no reason why would really p!ss me off.

Please don't try to take this thread off topic. The situation you describe is not what the OP is requesting advice upon.

Feel free to post your help and advice on the thread you are talking about, but please try to keep to the subject matter of this thread here :)
  • Card ?
    Check.
    Credit limit ?
    Check.
That is a person with a credit card from Barclays. If you've got it IN YOUR HAND then that is a FIRM acceptance of your credit application.
They had plenty of time to refuse the OP before they printed the blooming card...waiting until they'd sent it is, to coin a phrase, extracting the urine.

Hundreds amongst hundreds even thousands I would say have fell fallen to barclaycard and their declines after acceptances with card and credit limits.

So in theory yes the OP was accepted and given a credit limit only for further checks maybe which caused pulling the card.
