Bringing up to date an old notebook laptop

Hi I ve found an old note book probably about 7 years old with windows xp on it. It says a lot of the drivers are out of date . Is there a way of me finding out which they are and then updating them for free please.

Good question -- are you sure it's not some malware prompting you to install more junk, OP?

Anyway, the latest drivers are usually available to download from the support section of the manufacturer's website.

Try running the free PSI - (Personal Software Inspector).

It's a reputable program and it will update a lot of the software on the computor by itself, though it will inform you of anything it can't update automatically - so you can update it yourself manually.

p.s. It's also based in Denmark, so hopefully there's less chance of any NSA dodginess.

Get it? Now use it before you lose it.
    or - Try
using it - not losing it. ;)

Frankly a 7 year old lappy it may be better to wipe and install a basic Linux build. XP drops permanently out of support in 3 months time

I was burning a cd and something came up then saying about the sound. So I clicked on it and the next think I knew it was prompting me to pay for downloading the drivers . Apparently there 10 out of date ones.

drivers are free, and if it's working they don't need updating.

more important is what exactly you are looking at to get this message, an advert in a browser or what?

It was delivered to me and I bought it years ago when I was first starting out. The booklet says Fortune. Technology ltd. on the lid it just says NOTEBOOK .On the back it says Notebook. Computer. model M35W, product code M375S, serial number NKM375S05101531.

I wouldn t mind just restoring it to factory settings but it's not f8.
    Thanks.
