Tesco Car Insurance - Watch out!

Options
I have been with Tesco Car Insurance for years and my renewal was due at the end of December.

I received my renewal and it had gone from £58 a month to over £80!

I rang to query this and I was told it was due to the statistics in my postcode, which is probably what all insurers do.

Whilst I was on the phone I went on Tesco's website and got a car insurance quote as a NEW customer and my premium for the year came back over £400 cheaper!!

I queried this with Tesco and they agreed to price match - I was still annoyed that they tried to rip people off like this!

When my insurance came out of my account they had charged me the original price of over £80!

Eventually I got it sorted - Tesco agreed to cancel my policy and renew it at the cheaper rate and as a good will gesture they are sending me a £20 gift card.

So, even if you are not with Tesco, when you get your renewal, make sure you check it online too and maybe get it cheaper!

:)

Loyalty doesn't matter to companies these days. The quote would have been cheaper because of an introductory discount that you didn't get at renewal.

All that matters to companies is getting new business. New business is sexier to bosses than retained business. I would have gone elsewhere.

MSE's guide to insurance effectively says to never renew with your existing insurer.

I had Tesco Car Insurance and was told I would get 5000 club points. On queering the reason why the points had not been added to my club card (I gave them a few months to sort this) I was informed that I would not be getting the points as I pay monthly for my insurance and not up front, I didn't have a leg to stand on as they just disagreed with me that I was due them.

Auto renew = 99% you will be paying over the odds.

Ditch and switch every year for new customer rates plus potential cashback .

That's why I change companies every year, always cheaper to be a new customer. Pretty bad as you would think they would reward loyalty, but they don't care!
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Thanks, but it's been covered and flogged to death over the years.

Well it seems very clear to me on the front page of their website http://www.tescobank.com/insurance/carins/index.html the 5000 points is a monthly draw you get entered into. 5000 points is £500, if they really were giving that much away for each new customer it would have been plastered all over MSE.
