Incorrect reg on parking ticket

On New Year's eve i drove to work and parked in a council pay and display car park. I rang up to pay to park but came back to my car and there was a council parking ticket on the windscreen. The money hasnt gone out of my account, so unsure what has happened, but i thought id pay the fine and complain afterwards as i dont feel i can prove payment, only a phone call which anyone can fake.

so i just come to pay the fine, and ive noticed the registration number on the ticket is wrong. They have put my car as 56 rather than 58. There are clear photos of my car and tax disc, showing the reg, so what does this mean for the ticket? should i still keep my £25 to one side to pay the fine, or will this be overturned due to the details being taken wrong?

You'd be best posting this on the Parking forum or better still on peppipoo for the best advice.

Given this ( http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/councils-make-600m-profit-from-parking-tickets-9021191.html ) and similar reports in the news today, the cynical side of me suggests that, if I were a Council and setting up telephone parking, I might be quite happy for the occasional driver to think they've paid when in fact I haven't taken their money.
  • Does it go up after so many days? If so I'd be tempted to pay now or not at all if they didn't photograph your tax disc.

The wrong registration is fatal to a PCN. Ignore it.

They will send a late payment notice to the owner of the reg theyve mistaken entered. Owner of that car will hit the roof and then see the pictures and ring up straight away and say that's not their car on the photo. Appeals person will look up photo and say "oh sorry" and cancel the ticket and ressiue it to you. You will then have to deal with it.

You should find out if authortises can retroactively amend a parking ticket. It might be the case that they can't and if you call in and volunteer information that you have received a PCN on your windscreen that might be the nod to allow them to amend the ticket. So seek advice on this one before contacting them.

Don't leave and forget about it. If you have to appeal about the failure of the phone booking I'm not sure if appeals would allow "phone parking system didn't go through", if you have itemised billing on your phone you might be able to prove that you called (note: proof that you called is not proof that you attempted to book - but does suggest so).

Maybe it's a double confirmation for booking parking for phones and you didn't follow through on the confirmation, You should opt to receive a text with your booking or hear the words "thank you, your booking has been made, you are parked from x until y" and then hang up.

I find that with technology you dont get any amnesty for failure of machines. You are wholly responsible for booking the ticket so with smartphone app/telephone booking you have to be careful. If in doubt use text parking you get a written response and proof you booked.

It's dead in the water if she's correct.

It is a legal document, it has to be issued correctly or not at all.
    Be happy...;)

The TMA 2004 sets out what the PCN must contain. It makes no provision for corrections.

Just noticed this is also posted on th sub board:
