Don't buy a new car out of uni...

I have to say that I'd disagree (a little) as well. It's very sensible to always make the 'safe' financial decision, but at some point you're going to want to enjoy or treat yourself and to do that you're going to have to spend a bit. I'm sure that paying off your mortgage at 45 or 50 is a great feeling, but have some fun in the middle as well.
I look for value in my cars, but that doesn't always preclude buying new. I bought my RS4 new six years ago, and loved every minute of ownership, taking pleasure all the way through from knowing that it was mine from the beginning.
I've bought new again with the current car, and again, don't regret it. It puts a big smile on my face whenever I use it, and the money would just have been sitting in the bank otherwise.0 -
I despair at this as well.
Currently studying engineering so hope to be on 25k+ when I find a job, live a home for a while.
Most folk I know in that kind of position are paying 20-30k for cars which is downright excessive, especially on finance.
My current car was 7k, split between myself and brother, paid from savings. I do however LOVE telling people about the cracking finance deal I've got where I put 7k down and pay £0 a month for infinity months.
Best advice is: VAG TDI. Will do 200k miles no bother.0 -
Hi
When you're buying a car you should look around and buy whats best for you.
I bought my car from new 2 years ago and took out a 4 year deal to pay for it. But its 4 years interest free + free servicing & free breakdown cover.
Its a Honda Jazz and before that I was driving a Mondeo. I changed my car because the Mondeo was 10 years old & expensive to run whereas the Jazz is very economical and that was the priority for me.
I do use a credit card but I pay it off every month & it pays me cashback every January.
Credit isn't a bad thing as long as you control it and don't let it control you.
