Old style thread Friday 10th January

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Lack of sleep again and a real thank goodness it's Friday feeling this morning. I knew this first week of new job was going to be tough but being exhausted too does not help.

Smoked mackerel and spinach pilaff for dinner, left overs for lunches. Need to post a couple of little ebay parcels on the way home and get a couple of bits from HB, then the weekend starts and while I have got some jobs to do, on the main it needs to be a chilled one!

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for anyone who needs or just wants one. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

I'm quite new to MSE and getting my sea legs still, but I like the idea of an 'Old Style Thread' even though I'm not quite sure exactly what it means yet!!

I'm 'middle aged' but by the Lord I don't feel it, I get a shock when I look in the mirror and see wrinkles - my mum tells me that it gets worse!!

But I think I'm quite 'old style' - I'm a bit old fashioned in my ways and like good manners, respect, people being nice to each other, people being friendly, helping each other out. I am naturally optimistic and like to feel happy which I suppose helps, but wouldn't the world go round much more smoothly if only everyone was nice. (Maybe I'm deluded as well as middle aged?)

What am I doing today? It's my mums birthday (which she hates in winter) and I'm hoping that she feels well enough to go out shopping this afternoon. I need to pop to the supermarket, and I've got some work to do too (quite a lot actually but I'm trying to be calm about it). Then it's that Friday feeling at tea time, with a whole weekend in front of me. Yum!

So for today, I hope that you all have a nice day - I hope that you can see and count your blessings whatever kind of problems that you have in your life, because it's not generally as completely bad as you might think it is. Try finding a couple of nice things - even if it's just a crocus poking the top of it's leaves out of the claggy wet soil.

    Happy Friday!!
  • Morning TTFTM, Bluesky & everyone that follows.

Didn't drop off to sleep for ages again last night. I'm ok once I'm asleep, it's dropping off I have trouble with. Still, it's he weekend tomorrow.

BlueSky, wouldn't it be lovely if people were nice & respectful to each other. People are so rude nowadays. I live in the south east where no one has the time of day for anyone else. When I go up north I'm always surprised by how friendly (in general) people are. Mind you, you live in Blackpool, that's north!

So far today I have only made a coffee & am sat here drinking it. I need to empty the dish rack, clean the litter tray, make some packed lunches. Oh & get the kids out of bed. Goi to strip my bed today.

Youngest is having school, dinners today. He's not had them before but he says "school dinners" a lot & is excited at the prospect (he's autistic).

Actually, I've not fed the cat yet, I'd better feed him before he eats me!

I shall probably post again later today x

Have a good day all. Stay safe

    Love, hugs & spoons

    Morning All

Chilly this morning but no point putting the heating on as we are off to work in an hour or so, heating will go on when I get home.

Felt like I didn't stop yesterday - work, hospice and then builder to look at a few things, DD came in at 8 and I hadn't even thought about getting her tea ready, still she managed!!

Washing up to date but will have to change DDs bed this weekend, got the part for my hoover yesterday, what a fiddle to put the belt on and I had a wee bit left over. It seems to work anyway so gave everywhere a good hoover round.

Not sure what's for tea, I will look in the freezer in a mo. Hm soup for lunch.

Have a good Friday, take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Still dark here, looks like we've had a frost too, so roads and paths will be rather slippery as they were still damp yesterday.

DH up enjoying a cuppa. I'm up, showered and dressed, now enjoying a cuppa and my brekkie.

Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips, beans for the menfolk. I had a salmon slice, jacket potato and salad.

Was reasonably productive yesterday - got the washing, drying and ironing and packing done. Did the housework too. It really helped doing an online shop to be delivered in the late afternoon, so I was able to get cracking with all the other chores first. So at least when we get back I'm not coming back to horrendous mess.

We are up early and getting ready to head off for our weekend away - I just need to pack the chilled food in the cool bag, and then DH to pack the bags into the car, we need to stop off to get diesel then collect caravan and be on our way. Looking forward to getting away.

Have a good Friday everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

    Good Morning All

No rain here today :j and its Friday :j:j

Had an urgh day yesterday - bit of a temperature and a headache that wouldn't shift, thought was coming down with something but it seems not phew.

Today have 2 meetings at DS' school. One about a teacher I think has been victimising him and the 2nd as he hasnt been to school this week yet. He had a full blown panic attack the day he was meant to go back - turns out he has a phobia about being sick, I knew he was bad in cars etc but we always talking him though it with no problems. Now its got so bad that whenever he is just sitting there he starts feeling that he is going to be sick - saw the Doctor yesterday and apparently its quite common :( Anyway the pastoral lady at the school is being very helpful so we are off to see her. Doctor will send off a referral for CBT.

So not a great morning to look forward to but it gets the ball rolling on things. Other than that will be probably mainly doing office work. Have chicken legs in the fridge defrosting that we will have with Nando's marinade and rice for dinner tonight. ave cooked everynight this week and no takeaways so that is a brilliant start to the New Year :T

Hope everyone is fine and managed to stay safe from the floods - especially you Hester, looks like we are getting the cold front now

    Have a great day all.x
  • Morning all

For someone who was soooo tired last night I really had an awful night, tossing and turning, hopefully I'll have a better night tonight.

Just been to let the chickens out, its very cold, think we have had a slight frost, hopefully we'll have no more rain today so I can get some washing out.

Today is another stay at home day for me today although I've plenty of jobs to catch up.... chicken stir fry for tea tonight using lo chicken, our menus changed last night I fancied a roast chicken dinner so will use half the lo chicken for the stir fry tonight and the other half for the curry tomorrow.

Bluesky - Happy birthday to your mum x
Essex girl - sounds dreadful, your poor son....good luck today with the school x

Hope you all have a lovely day ((hugs)) to those that need them x

  • Good Morning All.

Cold bright start to the morning here. I quite like the frosty mornings as it makes everything look sparkling.
had a suprise visit from my DD and GD yesterday which was nice as i was starting to get withdrawel snuggles lol. Cant believe how big she is getting and how well she is doing (only just 2 months old and already holding up her head and looking around).
Dinner tonight is fish and chips as i have some fillets in the freezer that need using up.
Was meant to work till 9 last night but as everyone finished at 8 i snuck off early (shh lol)
Just looked down my list of todo's for work and i am pleasntly suprised that i have only one thing left to do, so today will be an easy day if nothing major happens. (fingers crossed).
DH went to his first self defence class last night and is now the proud owner of a black eye, bruised arms and a sore shoulder. He must be mad but he is loving it and is looking forward to next week for another bashing (men never will understand them lol)
Right better get on and do the last thing on my list here.
    Hugs to all xx
    Bright Blessings xx

Is this the same woman who complained about his hair ? Poor lad he is probably so nervous about being around her that its bringing on the panics and then making him feel he is going to be sick, hope you get some answers today, how can one teacher make one of her pupils feel so bad, makes me so mad !

    Morning all,

Frosty here but at least no rain, I have woken with a sore throat thank goodness only one day left at work this week, lets hope it does not turn into anything worse.

OH bought the ladders home yesterday so if its nice at the weekend he will go on the roof and try to see where the leak is, I shall hold the bottom of the ladder and close my eyes !

DD off to her boyfs tonight to meet his parents again seems to be getting pretty serious he is a nice lad just very very confident which may get on my nerves a bit, still she seems to like him which is all that matters !

OH and I are going to have an Indian takeaway tonight, looking forward to it very much.

    Have good days all xx
  • Morning all,

Bluesky - Hello :) I too agree good manners are key, but so many people just seem so rude and unfriendly.
Essexgirl - Hope your meetings go well today.

Lovely sunshine here today :). One lot of washing done another about to go in. DS2 and DH gone to school and work. DH has to take his car for an MOT later. Its a very old car, so fingers crossed it passes.

Going to pop out later and pick up some clothes a lady on freecycle was offering. I quite like the idea of upcycling some of them and those that are unsuitable I shall re offer or give to the charity shop.

I've got some chicken pieces out of the freezer, so will possibly do curry for tea tonight.

    Have a good Friday :)
