If you can't understand the difference between the 42 year old TV and today's TV - well I'm just speechless...
Tbh - no offense - but I'm glad the world isn't run by people like you as we would still live in caves
as no-one would ever see the point in changing anything... What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
I own a modern turntable - I play it (rarely) through modern speakers and a modern sound system...
S your comment about music being released in the last thirty years doesn't make much sense.....
We play our vinyle on one of two systems that are about (Oh sugar, um, actually...much older !) They are by coincidence exactly the same. One was my families, one DH got for his bar mitzvah, so I should be able to work out exactly how old. One has the original speakers one has newer speakers because the orginal speakers got damaged so an upgrade was made at the same time.
They play the vinyl that ranges from very old (get ready from roars of some .....) it was our dads'
. To very occasional new purchases.
However, one of our proposed jobs for this year is to start going through the vinyl and getting rid of anything warped/damaged. Sad job, but been put off for too long. Some have suffered in storage.0 -

That's a shame, if you are speechless or reduced to insults then it leaves you not able to support your argument. Your comprehension is also lacking its its clearly not been suggested that technological improvements haven't been made, (in fact I've said the opposite) but that most of them aren't at each stage of sufficient benefit to the average consumer to invest at each stage.
Maybe that's why I aspire to live in considerably more than a cave but not fill it with redundant technology.

Turntables are an example where a platform war was declared a draw and the consumer won. When RCA Victor and Columbia had different sizes and speeds for their vinyl records the record companies made dual-platform decks that played both speeds and sizes at the flick of a switch (or even automatically) so that consumers could have maximum compatibility.
Some even had back-compatibility with legacy 78rpm discs and voice recording 16rpm dictaphone ones.
As for televisions, this improvement in quality seems to have accompanied a decline in programme content quality. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

In some cases, and not in others.
I've replaced a belt on a tumble drier, and also (as mentioned before) the heating element.
You just need to take stock and decide whether it is repairable or not.
