laser eye surgery regression..

So, I had laser eye surgery almost 4 years ago now. When I had it done, they rushed everything through, and I had an awful experience with it. I was in absolute agony, down at my local a&e, having panic attacks (which I have never suffered from before and haven't since). My sight has become worse and worse since the surgery, and yesterday I had a consultation. They confirmed that my eyesight has severely regressed.

I spoke to someone today, and they have told me that my only option is to have the surgery again. I am absolutely terrified of the very thought of this and really don't know what to do.

The surgery cost me almost 2600, and I also suffer from halos and starring at night. It feels as though because of this, and if I don't have the surgery again, I'm actually in a worse position sight-wise than before I started.

I am absolutely terrified of having the surgery again, I don't want to go through that again, but at the same time wonder if it would be stupid just to cut my losses..

Does anyone know where I stand with this? The best solution for me would be to have a reasonable proportion of my money back and just go and buy some glasses (I am really that scared of having the procedure done again), but they told me over the phone that its not possible.

If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated.

  • The best thing that you could do is to make an appointment to see an independent optometrist and explain the problems you are having and see what they recommend.

Laser eye surgery does have its risks and a small percentage of people suffer from night vision problems following the procedure. The company that carried out the operationshould have explained this beforehand to make sure that you were aware of the possibility, and if they failed to do so, you would have a good legal case against them.
However, if the surgery consent form stated that you had been told of the risk and were willing to proceed, your chances of winning wouldn't be very good.

    Who did/arranged the original surgery?
  • Thanks guys..

The surgery was with optical express. I was told yesterday by one of their members of staff that I must have signed a legal document, she didn't tell me what was in this though. I have asked for a copy of it three times already, and think I will have to keep asking..

That's awful! Fingers crossed for you nothing goes wrong so you'll never need to worry about their guarantee.

I've decided to play nice with optical express for the time being, and just see how things pan out. Needless to say, I don't think I'll be promoting the benefits of laser eye surgery to anyone, it seems that at present they are just not properly regulated, so it is just down to luck how it goes.

Doesnt help you much, but I am so pleased I went with Optimax. Had mine done about 8 years ago and there has been very little change in my sight. As for the halos at night this was one of the things they warned me about in the consultation prior to getting the surgery. As far as I know this is unfortunately one of the laser surgery not sure if this is for both lasek and lasik though).
