Hiya,
I'm looking to buy a really good old fashioned frugal cookbook. As a kid I loved watching Farmhouse Kitchen and already have those books. What I'm looking for is an old fashioned frugal book which I can buy. I know that there's a wealth of info on here but I'd like to get hold of a cookbook.
Does anyone have any recommendations?

I have an older version of this one. It's not strictly frugal cooking, but many of the recipes are. There's a whole section on cooking offal (or "lucky dip animal parts" as I like to call them), pigs trotters, even a pig's head etc! Stuff that your butcher may well give you for free, or at least quite cheaply. Also, lots of recipes for bread, vegetables and potatoes.
(edited to say it's not a cheap book to buy new, but there are used copies from 52p!)

I would also recommend Shirley Goode. I've got the Delia Frugal Food but I don't think it's anywhere near as good as Shirley's book.

What about the Bero cookbook - lots of lovely pies, cakes, batters, pastries etc. etc. I use mine so often that it sits beside the range! I still have the first cookery book I ever bought back in 1962 when I first got married it was called Cooking for two and cost me 2/6d (12.1/2p) mind you it was bought in woolworths so I guess its well out of print now,but if you have a shufti in a boot sale or CS you may find either the Bero cook book or the Dairy cookery book from the 1960s both very good and easy to follow.0

I quite like Jocasta Innes' Pauper's Cookbook - although it's amusing that some of the stuff that was 'cheap' years ago is a bit of a luxury now! However you can get this quite cheaply on ebay.0
