Hi i am considering getting rid of sky tv or lowering to just £10 so would have freeview channels and the record pause functions.
Can anyone suggest any other good alternatives?
I cant switch broadband / phone as i am tied into a 10 month sky contract.
Would prefer new tv supplier but not sure which ones can get stand alone.

Unless you want subscription channels, then (if you want the PVR functions), a Humax Freesat PVR is the way to go. One-off cost, straight box swap, same dish and LNB. Otherwise stick with Freesat From Sky. Paying £120 a year, every year, just for the PVR functions, is a mug's game.
NB: you won't get any Freeview channels via your Sky box-you'll get the Freesat From Sky channels. Freeview is a terrestial service and requires an aerial. No free lunch, and no free laptop

OP If you have a working aerial then look at YouView. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Cheapest option is to cancel Sky TV and continue to watch free-to-air channels (lots of them!) but do without the recording functions. This will cost nothing.kpearsoncj wrote: »

Another option is to purchase a Humax satellite decoder/recorder (or similar) which will provide recording facilities without subscription. Obviously purchase price of the item must be factored in, but this is far cheaper (in the long run) than paying Sky an ongoing £10 a month.
Freeview PVRs are also available, but will require an aerial (if not already fitted).0 -
i want the recording function but i just wasnt sure if i could just get talk talk tv / bt tv with the recording function.
Does anyone know if you can just take them on there own0 -
You are not making yourself clear. BT Vision and Talk Talk TV both base their services on YouView, with added value.
Here you go if you have a working aerial buy this:-
