Will My New IMEI Number Automatically Pass over To O2?

My iphone 5S is faulty! If I'm given a replacement unit will O2 automatically be updated with my new IMEI number?

Would I have to ring them with my new IMEI number to update records?

o2 will know it as its sent when your phone contacts the network.

Why would you need it to be updated? Apple are the ones who need it for warranty reasons not O2,. You may have an insurance policy but that's likely to be a 3rd party not 02 themselves.

Do you get a new IMEI number? I had an iphone 4s which was faulty at two weeks old. I took it to the Apple shop and they replaced it under warranty. My recollection is that the new one had the same IMEI number - though I could be wrong.

The IMEI number is written on the phone, but also coded onto a chip in it. Each phone has a unique IMEI number.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

My Huawei G300 had a fault and they replaced the PCB. It came back with a note explaining that this changed the IMEI, and giving it.
Because the phone when bought was locked to Voda, and I unlocked it, I was expecting to have to purchase a new unlock code based on the new IMEI-but it was returned unlocked. Curious?

When you bought the phone originally, it was locked to Voda before you got it. The new PCB will arrive unlocked, the idea being that the repairer is supposed to lock it to the network. Thankfully they tend not to do that.
(Note: iPhone network locks work slightly differently - generally the lock is applied when the first sim is put in and the phone is activated with the sim - this is why activating using iTunes with no sim involved can be a good idea)

  • If you get the phone repaired through O2 then yes, the IMEI will automatically be updated. If however, you do not, then no it won't as O2 won't know it has gone for a repair.

I feel it's more convenient for me to get phone repaired by apple opposed to O2 (just preference)

Was wondering what would happen if I was given a replacement by apple?Surely If my phone was lost or stolen O2 would have my new replacement IMEI number or would that be up to me to keep a note of it?

You should let the insurance company know, If that's O2, fine, but often its a 3rd party. As has been said O2 will know the IMEI when you connect to the network, if they pass it on automatically is doubtful..
