Any thoughts on these 2 kitchen manufacturers?

Prefer the doors of the Mereway (Cucina Colore) but local kitchen place is modelling a Sheraton kitchen for us. It's a lot of kitchen (36-40 units) so need to make sure we're buying something decent!

Thats a very large kitchen so the design has to be spot on. Very large and very small kitchens are the most challenging. Very large kitchens can look very monotonous if not properly done and you could do a lot of walking if not properly planned.

In terms of units, I would say Sheraton is perhaps a bit better in terms of carcases. Doors selection, Mereway may offer a wider range but both manufacturers are by and large wrapped doors and not the best around.

For this sort of budget, you can and should look at German suppliers as well. Your designer will get a significantly enhanced range of units to design from and will give you a better end result.

Thanks. It's actually 3 rooms - a utility, kitchen and dining room. ;)

Arguably then you would benefit from working with a range where living units are offered rather than made from kitchen units. Nothing looks worse than a sideboard made from kitchen units.

There's no sideboard, but yes, if you can suggest a manufacturer range that does that I can have a look. :)

    Hi OP

Although Sheraton and Mereway are quite similar, I would have to vote for Mereway as being slightly better than Sheraton, but all things being equal it will be more expensive.

You mention Cucina Colore range from Mereway, so that's a flat panel door, are you thinking in the handless design? Either way I would agree with Ryder72, definitely look at some German brands.

We do 2 German brands, a mid market make and a very high end brand, we also do an English make which is very good quality for the money. In very general terms if we have a customer wanting a modern flat panel doored kitchen with or without handles then its our German makes we turn to. Then if a customer wants something a bit more traditional, as in a Shaker / framed door then its our English make.

I would have to advise also that more importantly than worrying about what make of kitchen to have would be get the right kitchen designer, someone that really knows what they are doing and knows all the latest things available in the industry. They need to be someone you feel can interpret what you want to achieve and someone you can trust.

    Good luck

Thanks for your advice. I think we're getting there with the design now. We're getting rid of a shaker kitchen so definitely don't want anything similar. Looking at flat panel handleless doors (prefer the Mereway non-J handle than the Sheraton J handle but that's not a deal breaker).

Whatever we have must have plinth drawers - Sheraton was the only range offering this at the kitchen shop we're working with. Not many ranges seem to offer plinth drawers.......

OK - so you prefer the handless system with the channels rather than the 'J' profile door. As a designer I agree, the channel system as long as its designed properly is much better. The 'J' profile doors are very much a poor imitation of a handless kitchen in my opinion.

The kitchen company you are working with are obviously a Sheraton dealer, do they do a German make?

  • OP - Sheraton also do a handleless door that isn't a J profile. It's called Contact and is push to open, available on all the slab/flat panel doors.

    Hope this helps.

Seen it. The push to open would be a pain in the bum with a clumsy toddler (which I happen to have).

    Thanks though.

A handleless kitchen is one where there are no handles on the door. Integrated door J-profile door handles or push latch handles are not handleless kitchens.

Too many kitchen manufacturers (and retailers) pull wool over customers eyes by passing of the J recessed as handleless. Tried opening a fridge freezer or a Miele dishwasher with one of those J recess handles?

In my knowledge Mereway is the only UK make of kitchen that comes close to making a proper handleless kitchen (one which has channels recessed into the carcass with doors that are flat).
