Phones4/Dial a phone Scam

Hi I'm just wondering if anybody has had any dealing ps with the above company regarding upgrades.

I have been with orange for a good few years now and was due an upgrade in February. After browsing on the internet and looking at different phones I typed my number in to there search bar to see if I could upgrade and I duly got a callback saying yes no problem and would be able to keep my new number.

I have since received the new phone today and was unable to put my old SIM card in due to the size so I put the new one in which is a different number and tried to make a call which led me in having to register the SIM card for this new number.

The guy I spoke to said that for my old number this has not been upgraded and that the new number is actually a new contract and I need to speak to them as they haven't registered anything with them and I will be billed twice as it is 2 separate contracts.

I cannot call them as they are closed but having looked online at my order it does say upgrade order has anybody had any dealings of the same nature? And if so what happened to get it resolved.

All responses are greatly welcome.

OP did they say new number or old?
If new then you may have got confused because it sounds like you have just got a new contract

Is the new contract on another network or Orange?

    scam

    - a dishonest scheme; a fraud

Why are you that sure that it's a premeditated fraud rather than just an error either on p4u or on Orange side?

Upgrade is always the same number on the same network.

I wasn't saying it was fraud in any way
To me it sounded like the OP didn't listen properly to what he signed up to that's why I put the quote at the top of what I said.

That part was addressed to the OP, not to you.

Only the line following the quote from your post was.
I thought it was clear, but now edited my post to make it more clear.

And if the order said 'upgrade', it couldn't be a hearing problem.

afaik you get to keep your old number..on your old contract... as they start a new separate contract with you with a new number. Semantic of wording where upgrade only refers to the phone being upgraded.
Resellers don't transfer your old number as they can't directly, only the actual telecoms company can (but then they don't have the cheaper deals).

Most mobile companies won't transfer a number internally from a reseller, so you need to port your old number away and then back again.
I'm on TMobile and coming against this too ...will port out to Tesco Mobile (£10 payg topup sim), then port back in to TMobile.

    PITA.

I also believe Ofcom only looked at number portability between networks, not specifically at resellers on the same network. It should be simple for telecoms to internally reallocate numbers, but they legally don't have to, so they don't!

    You know not very far.
Many retailer sell new contracts and do upgrades.
What you say applies to new contracts only.
