In my day grandparents were very practical people who'd lived through the war and brought up families during the depression, WW2 and the austerity years.

They were kind of remote. They weren't the generation that gave hugs and when you visited them you adpted their rules, which involved being quiet while the adults talked. And the TV being switched off as you were visitors. I remember my grandpa kept on denying we'd ever get to the moon as it wasn't in the bible. When they did land, he laughed and looked delighted!

:) my paternal grandparents were like that (except the moon landing, I wasn't around for that!). I never met my mum's parents. If they were alive now they'd be 108 this year!

My dad was an older dad, he would have been 91 last Thursday. He lived through WW2 and was captured in Africa and taken back to Germany as a prisoner of war for several years. Under 6 stone when he returned. Yes he was very strict over some things which I hated when kids my own age were not restricted the same way but he had a heart of gold and I remember sitting on his lap for cuddles as a little one as did my girls respectively and we would ruffle up his hair and he would pull funny faces, he never expected us to be quiet unless we were sat up to the table eating.

I would agree he was remote at times, some things he never shared and I guess he had good reason but he was a loveable character to everyone who met him.

Sorry I am bit emotional this week. Baring all there. :o

And good evening my little biker Hobbit!

Hello, tonight I'm trying to organise a hen night out for some non biking friends and I can't decide between spa weekend in luxury or weekend in alton towers? I'm trying to keep costs down but it's difficult.
