Mean dispatch star?

I bought something on 27th December that had 3 day dispatch time and 3 day delivery time. This meant it would arrive during my holidays at home! yay! No £2.50 spent on petrol going to the sorting office. Nearly all FB commented it was dispatched next or same day.
I was about to buy the items from someone else, but then when I clicked purchase, it told me their shop was closed until 6th January, hence I bought from another seller who was still working.
I was not best pleased when they didn't arrive, and I got a dispatch email on Monday 6th, and I've just had to use £2.50 of petrol picking it up! Grrrrrrr
I left a 2* for dispatch time. Was that mean?

Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

For me that is a totally unacceptable delay in posting without any contact first and I do not think 2* is harsh.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It always helps to have guidelines for leaving feedback and star ratings on eBay just to be fair to everyone. These can be decided by you of course. Let's say if the item is X days late, you leave 4 stars; if more you leave 3 stars, etc.0

Thanks.
I just feel a bit mean as it's quite a new business with <25 feedback, so I think the star might hit them hard. Perhaps they didn't know they had to close their shop???
On the other hand, why allow people to buy if you had no intention of sending?
Well I won't be buying any more as they also put their price up! Pah!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

Tough tits - their shop should have been shut or they should have extended their dispatch times.0

Do you think they deserved it?
If you are aware that they are new and trying to set up a business, and you obviously know the impact of those stars, then yes, I think you were "mean".
It would have been much more productive and good for Karma had you told them your thoughts and the damage that could occur from buyers less forgiving than you are.
Give them a negative to show your displeasure if you really do have to 'punish' them and save the 2s for sellers who really do deserve it.
I dont think you really feel that that seller deserved such low stars.0 -

It isnt very clear to new users what to do when they go away and it seems as though choosing "Holiday Setting" is what they want.
If they had say 100+ feedback then perhaps they have had long enough to learn the ropes, but expecting a new user to be up on everything is not very realistic.
Yes, we can say "They should know the rules before they start" and be strict about them......but its that kind of attitude and lack of understanding that is helping turn Ebay into a not so nice place to trade anymore.
Not many seem to want to take 2 minutes out of their time to help someone out.0 -

The new business thing was something I thought about after leaving fb, so the low star wasn't deliberately malicious.
it just made me feel a little mean, but on the other hand I'm not sure feedback should be linked to the number of items sold.
it was quite an inconvenience receiving them so late, and other businesses could have sent them sooner.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

If they are setting up a BUSINESS then yes, they should know exactly how the site works before launching a business. 6 day dispatch is not acceptable, however green round the gills they are.
A new business should be pulling the stops out to make sure everything is perfect to build their feedback up, not posting items out when is convenient to them.
I also believe accurate feedback should be left, and that shouldn't change whether it's a new seller or someone with 20,000 feedback.0 -
I'm going to say that I think a 2 was slightly mean
if it states 3 day dispatch then that's 3 working days. ebay dont count holidays or weekends in working days.
I've no idea where your seller was from but consider this.
Purchase 27th which was a friday, i've no idea of time, then it's the weekend.
so 30th is 1st working day
31 st (new years eve) 2nd working day but may have been some restrictions on post office opening hours
1st holiday
2nd holiday (at least in Scotland)
Friday 3rd (3rd working day) then weekend
Monday 6th (4th working day)
if you collected today then I assume there was an attempt at delivery yesterday, so thats day 5, or day 6 if not in Scotland.
So yes as a business the seller should have tried to post earlier especially because of the time of year, and they certainly dont deserve a 5 but a 2 is a bit mean considering the restrictions due to the time of year.
Also what was the date on the actual parcel? Sometimes people forget to update ebay as dispatched, perhaps it was sent earlier0
