Metro Bank introduces charges for withdrawing money Outside Europe

EDIT: I should note though that 'Faster Payments' into this account aren't as fast as many other accounts, and often don't appear until the next day. You may want to bear that in mind.
When I do my 'money laundering' each month, I make sure to send to N&P in the morning and it's always back in my main account by close of play.0 -
Received my letter this morning - very annoyed that Metro Bank are removing the non-Europe element of this after it was their main selling point when I opened an account with them.
Got both the debit and credit card. Debit for withdrawing cash when abroad and credit for spending wherever takes cards!I know this is a moneysaving site but it you spent thousands of pounds on your holiday then is it good value to be running to the internet every day to save a couple of quid?
Also bear in mind that hotel (and certainly cruise ship) internet may cost you more than the interest.
It does depend on what type of holiday you're on, but there is a question over whether it's worth putting yourself to a great deal of trouble to make sure it's absotlutely zero.
Completely agree with this. Its hardly a good use of time to withdraw then pay cash back in! That seems excessive!
Lots of tweeting going on too - see the hashtag #MetroBankFailInterested in property investment, web tech, social media, forex, equities. Also a proud father & entrepreneur of sorts.0 -
I'm interested in opening a Metro Current Account for the sole purpose of using the debit card as a low fee European travel card (just had 22 pounds in fees on my current Lloyds debit card when in France for 5 days >:\) But I don't want to have to close my Clubs Lloyds current account as Metro don't pay squat interest.
Is this possible? Ie. Can I keep my Metro account with 0 pounds or some small token sum and only use it 2 - 3 times a year when I'm travelling? From my reading of the terms and conditions on Metro's site there does not seem to be a minimum amount required in the account or any direct debits like many other current accounts...or have I missed something?0 -

They might close the account which is inactive. Put £1.00 and then monthly SO for instance 1p. By doing this you keep your account active and stay under the radar ...0 -
I have £0 in the main account. I do have three savings account with them (used for different things - keep them separate so I don't use money meant for one thing on something else, their 1% fixed withdraw or not makes it very good idea) though at the moment I don't have a penny in them either.
I don't think they'll mind. I only use the main account to transfer money from the savings accounts to my other banks accounts when required.0
