13/29 AFDs today (didn't post yesterday's AFD).
Well done, Arkers, on your weight-loss so far, and welcome. This group is very supportive, and if you post whenever you are struggling there'll be someone along very soon to respond. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
Ok, so I caved. I had a glass of white wine....BUT when my DSD went to top up my glass, I politely declined, put the cork back in and the bottle in the fridge. There were three surprised faces and a few raised eyebrows and one proud Dizzy. I may not be AF this evening, but I'm not trashed like so many Saturday night's in the past.
Cathybird, your unit calculator really has got me concerned about my alcohol intake and I'm determined to turn this around.

Hello Everyone,
I think I need a bit of support. I am on a weight loss journey and have significantly cut down on what I drink, I have managed reasonably well since the end of September. The problem is that I've had a bad week and I can feel the itch and I don't want to scratch it. My eating and drinking is all wrapped up in how I'm feeling. If life is ticking along and the status quo is maintained then it is easier to control. If the slightest thing rocks the boat then it is so easy to get that bottle of wine.
Is it too late to join the challenge? Is it ok not to set a number, and take it a day at a time? I have been motivated by some really nice peeps over on the SW thread, I have lost 28lbs and a large part of that is not drinking too much. I get the impression that this thread would be equally supportive, and I selfishly need that at the moment. I also feel physically better and I don't want my mental state to sabotage my physical improvement.
Apologies if I'm rambling!
Arkers x
Hi and welcome arkers! I joined this thread a while ago and find it hugely supportive and friendly. Aside from feeling sluggish and unhealthy when I'm drinking too much, it really doesn't help with the weight does it!? I've lost 30lbs so far from cutting down on alcohol and eating better and smaller portions - plus lots of walking and exercise (aided by my Fitbit charge hr, which has been revelatory for me!).
I also know all about blips - I started my weight loss / healthier me journey in Jan 2015. Did very well up to June/July and then slipped into bad habits and between then and Dec I managed to regain 7lbs (it wasn't more because I had the occasional week of trying tor reestablish good habits but nothing enduring). The trigger for me had been a great holiday during which I consistently over indulged. Got home and was very disappointed in myself, gave myself a very hard time and punished myself by continuing to overindulge.
I'm back in very positive place and the lightest I've been since Jan 2015. There will be more blips to come. I know this because that is life, but I feel better equipped to handle them now and this thread is very helpful to provide a bit of extra support to remind me that a blip is only a problem when you don't attempt to get right back in the saddle. It only matters what you do today, not yesterday nor tomorrow.
I hope you find this thread as helpful as me (& the many others!).
As for this month am just about on target though succumbed to a g&t and two glasses of wine on Friday night. 10/23 please shaggy.
Thank you xxxx0 -

Morning :hello:
1 more ALD for yesterday. After a busy week socializing we have nothing planned for at least 2 weeks - time to rack up lots of AFDs!
ShaggyxWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -

Morning all! Just dropping by to say I did have some wine last night - at the time it felt like a liberal couple of glasses but I'm not at all hungover this morning. I do find if I take breaks from it that the amount I feel inclined to drink goes way down, whereas if I drink habitually it slowly creeps up to scary levels. Back in the day (not so long ago) I'm sure what I drank last night would have been downed by about 8pm and I would have kept going.
Tonight not an AFD either and then for the coming week it will be 4 AFDs - at this point planning again for Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri, but the non-AFD day might shift as a workmate of mine might want to have a drink at lunchtime on one of those days. If not, I'll stick to plan. Thanks all.0 -
There isn't an exercise/fitness thread like this that anyone knows of, is there? ... I'm half-inclined to start one, if not.0
