Could the studying be an idea for distraction piggles?

I wonder if it would work for you if you planned in advance when to have a drink rather than feeling you've slipped up and something to feel guilty about? Sort of giving yourself permission. Maybe if you said something like I'm having a beer on Saturday night. Then if you didn't really enjoy it you'd not be keen to repeat the exercise.

Do you enjoy it when you have a drink?

Apologies this took me so long to reply maman! I suppose I say slipped up because I don't really want to drink at all. I do enjoy it when I drink because it's like sitting back in my old comfy chair again. But that's part the trouble, I'm hovering between wanting to be/feel the way I used to, and wondering if I should be different and not drink. A lack of firm identity if you like, although that might not be putting it the right way.

If wine/beer was free, had no ill effects and I didn't pay for the enjoyment it would be fine, but it's not like that is it!

I already study so the counsellor was maybe latching onto something easy rather than dealing with the difficult things. She was making suggestions that weren't really necessary.

My sleep has gone a bit patchy for ages now. I keep waking every 2 hours overnight, and even though I go to bed just after 10pm I'm still awake at 1am. I think I'm doing what I did as a kid though and resisting sleep :o

I'm doing well on the AFDs though,
    7/17AFDs please shaggy :)

8/20 AFDs. I've been sleeping badly recently, and at 2am this morning woke up from a nightmare that my mum had gone out by herself for the day and still wasn't back. I can see where it was based, but the place I was waiting for her was my childhood home where she lived for over 60 years until 18 months ago. I was still awake 2 hours later, so it was a struggle to get up at 8am... took me half an hour to get up, which meant I then had to rush round like a baf, sigh.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

9/20 AFDs today. The urge was strong to have a sod it drink, but I resisted because I consciously thought about the consequences of opening a bottle of wine.... I'd drink the lot... and it'll interfere with parkrun. Quite proud of myself for not overruling the sensible head (for a change). The power of parkrun is strong!

  • Yesterday was a night out so some drinks involved. And we saw krampus at the movies (can thoroughly recommend if you like comedy horror with a Christmas theme - bit gremlins-y). Today is an AFD and I am declaring early so 10/25 please shaggy!

Good choice there, Satchmo. I hope Parkrun went well.

Just been to my first Christmas do which was excellent, watched the group I was with get thoroughly pickled, had three B**ks B**es and came home sober to walk the dog, leaving them to soak up the rest of the wine. I have no doubt there will be more over the bar before they've finished.

I love being sober. I passed Day 500 a few days ago, celebrated it with a big bar of wholenut chocolate and an enormous feeling of relief. This is, without doubt, even better than having stopped smoking about nine years ago and I was pretty chuffed about that, too.

    12/31 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.
  • HB its funny that relief.
Its very different to the previously felt relief of having enough wine in.

    11/21 please Shaggy.

DH has bought some nice red to keep to himself. Er...no.
    Hoping for an ALD today.
