    This x 1000

Stopping drinking for me meant the necessity to change myself. Old me without drink means a scared, angry, resentful man. That's no fun for me nor others.
I couldn't sleep too well either, and would wake up with a tight, knotted stomach ache (fear)

I had to change my actions, which meant a change of my thinking.
I couldn't out-think my bad thinking, so needed to change my actions.

    Good luck and keep going.

Thanks Graeme :) I've started to change tiny things and have developed a general habit of doing things differently, or a different way around, and now the stopping drinking. It's a long road I suppose, but yeh I can relate to the scared, angry and resentfulness.

Counselling always said to reward myself with things and be kind to myself, but these seemed like cliches to me and I don't really work that way. I just want to be warm and safe, totally different.

Sandypan thanks for the list of good things that AFness does :) amazing what gets better after not drinking, and especially after extended periods of time. Good inspiration!

Anyway sorry if I've rambled on in my posts. I think I've said most of it now. But after the other rubbish day where I decided to have some wine I only had 2.5 units in the end. That was a humdinger :D And then last night back to the cranberry juice again with not much trouble.

I still can't get the multiquote working properly and it misses posts out I meant to reply to or then misses a different two off and just includes one, so it gets in an awful muddle.

9/15 AFD please shaggy :) the kitty on the moon gets nearer..

Fell free to ramble on all you want piggles. Everyone on here has a story to tell, that's why we're here. Sharing them can often help others as well as yourself.

I'm glad chardonnay who can properly empathise with the OCD. I know very little about OCD personally but I'd have thought being in control of your drinking should help rather than fearing that it was getting out of control. Being in control for me doesn't mean giving up but choosing when I want a drink and when I don't. I hope you really enjoy the units that you do drink.

Thanks maman. Getting in control of drinking is definitely a really positive step with dealing with OCD for sure. Not easy to do when you've used it as coping method for so long (talking about myself here) but I found confidence came with learning that I can deal with my anxiety without alcohol and a lot of the time it was making it worse.

Hope you can find something that helps you Piggles - don't give up, they are making bigger and better strides in helping people to live better lives with OCD.

    6/17 now please Shaggy.

    13/24 here.

Had the first drinks of the month last night and I'll admit that I really enjoyed them but I kept it to a sensible level. No popping into the off licence on the way home.

For me this has always about cutting down and learning to control my drinking rather than giving up totally. I like alcohol - it's just that I want to be in control of it, not have it in control of me.

2 more for yesterday and this evening please Shaggy. ALD for yesterday (one glass of wine) but AFD tonight :)

We're on flood alert, so need a clear head if we have to take emergency action in the night. River is predicted to rise to 4.5 metres. The fields start to flood at that level, then it crosses the road towards to our house...

    8/23 please x

9/23 please Shaggy. River is still rising this evening and the fields behind our neighbours have already flooded

I will not be drinking until the water levels are back to safe readings. I suspect after that, I'll be having a glass or two...or five...
