1/8 ald :-)
thanks shaggy2/8 ald so far.
It would have been 3, but I messed it up last night because I got so fed up with constraining myself and felt really miserable so I had 4.5 unitsMaybe it's temporary and just because I'm not taking in lots of false happiness. But I'll keep going and see if it gets so I'm ready to sleep after two units.
Honey_Bear wrote: »My solution is AF beer, but some people find it too tempting. I don't, and it makes life a lot easier because I actually like it! I haven't found an AF wine I can stomach and I'm not going down the road of AF spirits. If all else fails, a tomato juice with a hefty dash of Worcester sauce if we're out and the pub or restaurant doesn't have any AFs. Too much sugar, whether in soft drinks or not, makes me feel very, very ill. But I agree whole-heartedly, I need always need something to sip and water just doesn't cut it for me, sadly.
I like AF beer as well. I had some in a pub once with my friend and he was a bit put out I wasn't drinking. But it was during the day and I've never been a fan of daytime drinking. When/if I meet up with him again I'll see if the pub has AF beer. That would save me because I'm worried about having too much on a night out and I can't sit with nothing.
I've got the cranberry juice nowThe plan is if I want more liquids I'll have a glass of that instead.

The good news is that although stopping drinking made my sleep problems slightly worse for about two weeks, after that I slept like a baby and still do. I had insomnia from the time I was a teenager and never expected to sleep well again because it went on for decades, but this last year has been amazing. My new trick is to switch the light out before 11.30 pm and that's cracked my sleep problems once and for all. I can't tell you want a relief it is.
I also wanted to say that I echo absolutely everything Shaggy Do said about stay at home parents - of either sex. It's a seriously under-valued vocation and I can't understand why. I'm glad you recognise the value of it yourself but a lot of stay at home parents' confidence takes a heck of a hammering which isn't helped by ignorameses spouting carp about things they know nothing about and being stupidly judgemental. As Shaggy says, who gives a $h!t what they think?
As I'm not very well and tired, I'm going to give the 11.30pm thing a go tonight. Mrs K is a light out at 10pm and asleep in 10 minutes sort of person, despite teasing her for still having a child's bedtime routine, I'll admit I'm actually a little bit envious.
I don't really have any confidence / self esteem but haven't had since a few years before my son was born. Nothing new for me, really.
One hour until bedtime , the night is usually young at this time for me! :rotfl:2018 totals:

Alex, I heard a lovely saying after I stopped boozing that one of the bloggers uses: Sobriety delivers everything that alcohcol promised. I drank steadily for 20 years, heavily for the last 10 and couldn't understand why I couldn't sleep, I was gaining weight, was regularly very rude to friends, lost my temper with OH a lot, spent money I could ill afford and gradually lost my self-confidence because, quite frankly, I just wasn't a good person to be around. No matter how many times I read what giving up the booze would do for me I simply didn't see how I could get from where I was to where I wanted to be until I decided that I just had to knock it on the head. Miraculously - everything I'd been told was true and being sober was the solution. It was as simple as that. I really hope you find the answer for you because you sound like a really great guy.I personally have been awesome
