Wow, congratulations on an AF Christmas day, Satchmo.
That's a noble act being designated driver on Christmas Day satchmo.
I wasn't AF but surprised myself by drinking in such moderation. I'm delighted with how 'normal' I've become thanks to this thread.:)
More moderation planned for today, in fact for ever really!;)0 -
Wishing you all a Happy Christmas & a Prosperous New Year !
3 years 2 months and 9 days AF - and never tempted to go back on the booze even though I can now afford it having become DF.
I found myself thinking of you Antonic over Christmas and smiling about your MSE name and achievement. (I live next door, literally, to the Plymouth Gin distillery and I love(d) their gin.) I am rather looking forward to being able to rack up numbers similar to yours.
Huge congratulations to everyone who found themselves drinking less than they would have done in the past over Christmas, especially you Maman. You've been wonderfully supportive over the past 153 days and it's really helped.
Alex I hope you have recovered from your lurgi.
And I'm also thinking about my buddy Barny who held my hand as I skipped across my first month's finish line and Satchmo - for being so determined.
Huge thanks to you, Shaggy, as always. 25/31 please. That's my first sober Christmas in 22 years and it feels great!Better is good enough.0 -

A very moderate evening of two glasses of wine tonight. Tomorrow might be messy as I'm entertaining at home.
I've done all the prep, including setting the table, as the visitors are arriving at around 12 noon, and I'm planning on going to parkrun beforehand if the roads are safe. It's not snowing where we live, but is in the surrounding area (we're in a bit of a microclimate apparently although DH swears its a rain-based one).
A quiet day all round here, but I've been feeling very anxious for some reason. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
A belated Happy Christmas everyone! :hello:
Well done to antonic and Honey Bear - you continue to be such an inspiration!
Hope the Parkrun went well satchmo. I am very jealous as haven't been able to run since my op and I'm going stir crazyStill, after 6th Jan should tentatively be able to start again - can't wait!
Well I am now on 18/21 so now thinking I will probably make my target after all! I didn't drink yesterday and that must be the first time I haven't drank on Boxing Day for years and years. I can definitely see a change in my mindset now. In the past I would have drank whether I felt like it or not "just because it's Boxing Day" but I really didn't feel like it yesterday and was quite happy with my cup of Camomile tea
Christmas Eve I only had one glass of red wine and Christmas Day I did have half a bottle of Prosecco and 1.5 glasses of rose spritzer, so that's more than I've had in a while but stopped drinking by 4pm and didn't bother in the evening at all - again unheard of!
Like ellsbell, I would like to work towards not drinking at all one day. I too feel like it would help me on so many levels. I seem to have such a low tolerance for alcohol these days. I also suffer with anxiety which is exacerbated the next day when I've had a drink. I feel I have self medicated over the years and it's stopped me from facing up to my anxiety and helping myself. As I'm sure Graeme Carter said somewhere I too feel like "I was born two drinks short of normal" or something!
I think I am definitely heading in the right direction though0 -
Hi everyone
Hope you all had a lovely Christmas. No more AFD's for me this month but certainly drinking less amounts which is a bonus. Will aim to perhaps get another 1 or 2 AFD's this month under my belt and if not then will start again in Jan.
We've just returned home after being away visiting family since 23rd, it's lovely being home, sorting our all our gifts and pottering about. DH away to allotment to pull out some leeks, planning to make some leek and potato soup later on. Can't face any more buffet food! It’s not what you have in your life but who you have in your life that counts0 -
Some really impressive stopping/cutting down/moderation here. Amazing achievement.
I had a Christmas without a drink. Other family members drank (some drank quite a bit) but I was not interested in it myself.
Very different to previous Christmases where I would have had a drink, even if I didn't fancy one.
I don't know about cutting down/controlled drinking/moderation as I was never able to have any success in that department, but not drinking at all has been (on the whole) wonderful for me (and only me - I speak for myself only).0 -
Hi :hello:
Just popping in to wish you all a belated Merry Xmas (or an early one for next year) and have a great 2015.
