Need A Security Key Cutting.

Hi all, My Mum needs a spare key cutting, when I went to a key cutter he said he couldnt cut it because it was a security key.
(It looks like a yale key but with a larger top to it)
She made enquiries with her housing company who want to charge her £70 for a blank! Does anyone cut these keys?

  • Yes, the housing should tell you who they use to cut them.

Getting a key cut by the housing is not a problem but £70 is.
The blanks are the same as key cutters have but as I stated they seem reluctant to cut one

    That's security keys for you.

What's the key for? A key safe will be cheaper.

if you can't find a cooperative key cutter who will do one for you then I'd swap the lock barrel out as the next easiest/cheapest solution.

Yale or euro lock would be <£10 to buy and 10 mins to fit (inc a cup of tea)

Good idea if you own the property but by the sound of it, it's not her lock to change.

unless it's a shared front door then I don't see a problem with a tenant changing locks, if the landlord disagrees then they need to make spare keys available for £5 rather than £70

No they don't and equally they could always find a new tenant.

Is the key for her front door or a communal door?
