my rings are platinum as I didn't want the hassle of a white gold ring losing colour and redipping etc. Didn't even realise palladium was an option. husband got a tungsten ring as he liked the look of it and the fact that he couldn't scratch it, felt a bit guilty because of the price difference but it was what he wanted :)
  • My engagement ring is white gold but I have ordered my wedding ring in Palladium - similar reasons to most others, I will probably reset my diamond into a Palladium band in the future too. H2B has got Titanium as he is a Steel Worker and works in extreme tempretures, it was recommended as very hard wearing and lightweight.

  • I have platinum. I knew exactly what I wanted (split shank pave with a halo and sapphire centre stone!) and we wandered around Hatton Garden for hours, until I looked into a window and there it was! It just happened to be in platinum. Didn't realise it was so much more expensive than white gold at the time, now we're looking at wedding bands and slightly  at what they cost compared to the same ring in white gold!
  • My rings are both white gold, I'd have loved platinum but it was not in our budget! I got my shaped wedding ring from wedding rings direct and it fits perfectly with my engagement ring which just came from good old h Samuels! Hubbies band is titanium and was a bargain from a local bespoke jewellers.

Mine is 18ct yellow gold diamond set, curved to sit around my engagement ring which is 18ct yellow with 3 princess cut diamonds set in platinum. My eternity ring is also 18ct yellow gold, a twist design with diamonds set in platinum, which sits on the other side of my engagement ring and compliments the other 2.

DH's band is plain yellow 9ct D-shape as that is what he wanted.

My engagement ring is fairtrade, unplated white gold as I like the 'softer' white, and my wedding ring will be the same.
I particularly wanted fairtrade as I figure we're spending a lot of money on a luxury item, so whoever mined the gold ought to get paid fairly!

  • I had no idea that there were so many different types of metal that wedding rings were made in! Mine is a 9ct gold cheapie from Ratners in 1994 because we were skint! Still, it's lasted 20 years (in March) so it can't be that bad! :)

My original enagement ring is yellow gold with a lilac stone.

We started shopping last week for wedding rings, and I fell in love with a 4mm, white gold band, so it resulted in me also getting new white gold engagment ring.

Himself is having a yellow gold band with a small diamond in it.
  • Both mine are 18ct gold. I have an engagement ring from the 1920's that we bought at an antiques/flea market. My wedding ring is a plain 18ct gold band with three tiny diamonds set into it.
My DH doesn't have a ring. His friend nearly lost a finger when he caught his ring in a window and because of that DH won't wear rings.
