Anyone know what this pipe is and if its important....

    Would the usual pumping the brake pedal a good few times till it is stiff with ignition off, then keeping foot on pedal and turning on ignition (the brake pedal should go down) test this?

    Errr I notice noone has asked the obvious question.... where does this pipe start and end? That would give us all a clue as to ity's purpose wouldn't it?
