Tesco Credit Card Application Help

in Credit cards
I'm in the process of applying for a credit card with Tesco. Not convinced I'll get it as I don't have much credit history (never had any debt before - only mobile phones and DDs for utilities), but I thought I'd give it a go before looking at anything more sub-prime.
The only only problem is that the application is asking me for the date that my bank account was opened. I've had the same account since I was 5 years old, so for over 20 years. Obviously I have no idea when it was opened, as I wasn't exactly keeping records back then! I don't want to put the wrong date and get declined on a technicality. Also, the account has been through some changes - it's currently a graduate account. Is this counted as one account throughout the time that I've had it, or is each change classed as a different account? And what do I put as the date opened if I really can't remember? Is there a way of finding out through the bank?

Put down the date of your 18th birthday. Around 8-9 years will count for a lot.
Saying 20 years when they know you're 20-something may sound an alarm?
Whatever date you put on this application, be sure to keep to this date when making future applications for financial products, because your application data is shared with fraud prevention agencies!0 -
That's really helpful; thanks

It's come back with an APR of 20.9% and a limit of £2,900. I know no-one on here has a crystal ball, but based on other people's experience/knowledge does this mean likely acceptance or rejection? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Interesting tactic YorkshireBoy and I am sure you make the suggestion in all seriousness!YorkshireBoy wrote: »Put down the date of your 18th birthday. Around 8-9 years will count for a lot.

I wouldn't worry too much about that given my recent experience and most posters reactions to it!Whatever date you put on this application, be sure to keep to this date when making future applications for financial products, because your application data is shared with fraud prevention agencies!0 -
It is good news, thats your apr and your limit but be prepare to send your proof of ID as tesco is known for asking for proof of ID even when you are accepted straightaway.Aqua Advance £ 9500 ( Settled ) | BC Platinum Card 25/25 £10500 | 24 studio £1950 | SimplyBe £1800 | Nationwide Flexplus A/C OD £800| Meaningless Noddles score= 3/50

Thanks, everyone. Got four more days to wait, so I imagine I'll be asked for ID then if they're going to progress with the application. Finger crossed

Not necessarily. I applied Online back in July last year and was accepted straight away, I received my PIN & Card within a week and I was never asked for proof of ID.0 -
I might apply later in the year to do a balance transfer when I have cut my card balance significantly. I will use the balance transfer to accelerate my repayments. Nice to know that they do balances above £1200.It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0
