Problems with Honeysuckle

I planted a honeysuckle a couple of years ago against the garage wall which is south east facing.

Both last year and this, during the spring it has looked really promising with many luscious green leaves, but by June leaves are falling off or turning yellow and the whole plant looks threadbare. There are only a few flowers on it.

It has grown well, in the sense that it is about 8ft high but thats about it.

Any ideas on whats wrong? :(

My guess is either aphids (have a look under the leaves...) or honeysuckle leaf blight... this is a fungal problem and you can get a spray for it. You need to remove the infected parts and then spray the rest with a copperbased fungicidedal treatment (ask your local garden centre).

This is exactly what has been happening to our honeysuckle for the last few years now as loobs 40. We even start spraying as a preventative and still the leaves go yellow. There are no insects to see, so I assume it's fungal. We have tried all sorts and spent a lot on different sprays, but at this time of year nothing stops the leaves from going yellow and dropping off, subsequetly the beautiful smell of honeysuckle which used to permeate through our french doors in the summer, no longer does. I wish someone could suggest a brand. Last garden centre said don't wait for the leaves to start turning yellow as that is then too late, but that doesn't work either.

i planted honeysuckle last year and and I've just noticed its covered under the leaves with little black specks of something.

Anyone any idea what it is?

And the bad new is it has spread on to my lovely cherry tree.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but I'm not the greenfingered type :o and could really do with some advice as I dont know where to start.

To be honest I'm happy to bin the honeysuckle but I am really worried about my cherry tree. We do not pay it any attention and have bowls and bowls of cherries each year and this year it looks poorly sick and I'm all sad :(

I can take some pics on tues & post if that would help me get more advice?
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

Could they be insects? Get some close up pics and see if we can find out what it is :)

my cameras not so good but this is the best I can get. They are of my cherry tree as I'm not bothered about the honeysuckle now. God, I wish I went down to the bottom of my garden more often :(

Try spraying everything with soapy water. It does kill quite a lot of plants bugs in my experience.

And watch out for ants, they farm, protect and transplant the pests from plant to plant.
