I watched that last week hoping I'd learn something but it was gross. There was one man who cycled into town, stopped at every telephone by the side of the road then got his tape measure out and dug around the grassy kerbs looking for fallen change. When he got into town he raided the laundrettes lint from the dryers for his fires and checked the money trays again for change. He then went into a cafe and felt down the sides of the sofas for fallen change.

After hours of this he'd raised 7 dollars so he went to a butchers to buy something for tea and purchased two goat heads. He cycled home and cooked them for his wife (they looked frozen to me in the butchers but anyhow..) his poor wife came home to roasted goat heads for tea, cheap wine he'd decanted into a posh bottle to fool her and a fire using the lint he'd got.

I wish l was lying about what is seen but I'm not!

I watched that!! It would have been better if he had bought something his wife would actually eat like mince or sausages, he could have got either for that money, more of a waste him buying the goats heads and his wife mot eating it.! The butcher must have thought his luck was in getting rid of those heads!!

Scraping food back and using old cooking water is unhealthy as well as unsavoury. There is a very obvious way to save money....serve less food. Both adults looked as if they could make savings there.

The shower thing is Eco friendly, I can get on board with that, even if I don't do it myself I admire it, but not if they aren't cleaning properly. :(.

Not socialising and feeling stressed is also not healthy and will cost them more in health repercussions I imagine.

I haven't seen any other programme on money saving though have seen the reference here and one on old style. Ironically I think the programme is on a paid for service, which I am far too mean to pay for.

We have 'Navy' showers, if you want a soak, have a bath. I think for us this stems from having a caravan with a limited supply of water :)

I can't see how using one light bulb makes much difference and certainly think the food re use is dangerous.

I understand the peeling of bananas, although wouldn't they go brown on on the journey home?

I cannot. I understand leaving extraneous man made packaging in store and not paying for it. But peel is something the fruits have been shipped with and need to reah her basket in that condition, in essence other customers end up paying for her peel, because Stores won't lose profit on the vist so if everyone took it up, prices would up . that's not fair.

And surely constantly moving a lightbulb around could make it more likely to break?

I remember a few years back they did a documentary on regional TV about a local frugal family. They lived in this house that looked like something out of Steptoe and Son and it was horrific. They all looked absolutely awful because the mum cut everyone's hair (but clearly had no training) and she made clothes out of bits of curtain and scrap fabric. The kids were pre-teen and I wish they had done a follow-up documentary when the kids were older. There was no way those kids were ever going to have any type of social life or partner looking like they did.

Why on earth does he stay with her? What is the point of living such a controlled, unpleasant life?

Some of what she's doing is a health hazard. Considering the USA's health system, she'll cost them way more in medical bills than she'll ever save. Other stuff is just pointless - moving the lightbulb around is no more economical than just having one switched on at a time, and will probably result in needing to replace it sooner.

Presumably quite a bit was set up for the programme. Why else would there be a crowd around to watch the football yet none of them be aware that the tv would be turned off when the ads were on? (And she was in the kitchen with the light on at the time!)
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..
