Sainsbury Mobile: PAYG Data Cost?
Just looking at the above as a possible provider for OH (currently with Asda Mobile and taking forever to be ported to EE).
Can someone tell me how the data is charged on the basic tariff (i.e. not on a bundle)?

Is 50p per day applied as a minimum charge as soon as you use any data? She would be a low data user, probably less than 100MB a month. If so it's a non-starter, as the data charge would be £15 per month!

Correct, one byte of data and the charge comes in, exactly as Vodafone do, as it sits on thir network.
The phone checking email by itself at 12:00:01 will trigger the data data fee, as will starting to surf at 23:59:59 and doing so for 2 seconds, and yes for many people it does make Sainsburys a ho hum deal (I looked at them and discounted them for that reason too!)0 -
Why not try Three 3 2 1 (3p per minute, 2p per text and 1p per mb)?0

3- 321 was my obvious first choice-but she has a Nokia Asha 201-which is 2G only, so no go.
I'm looking at Talkmobile, but the data rate is still a minimum 25p per day, also giffgaff (but the call and text rates are less competitive on the latter).
She'd be happy to stay on Asda if they could only manage to complete the port (now 9 days without service).
May bite the bullet and upgrade to a 3G handset to go with Three. However, Voda reception is much better here, so that was my reason for checking out Sainsbury and Talkmobile. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Get Ovivo (on voda network) 200 minutes, 300 texts and 500mb free each month for a one off payment of £20.
There are adverts when she uses google, but if she only uses 100mb in total perhaps she doesn't google that often with the phone.0 -
You could have a look at White mobile, who charge 2.5p per MB. They use the EE network.
