I've never heard of a spray for this. If it was me I'd either stop access to the room when I'm not there or put something on the chair so he couldn't get on it.

Some people only exist as examples of what to avoid....0 -
I have anti-dog devices in my house! Cardboard boxes and shopping bags usually keeps my hound off the recliner in my absence (one day of course she decided to investigate the box!)Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Many years ago, our before work routine was to cover the settee and chairs with blankets and place upturned dining chairs on each-the only way to keep our springers off.
There are so called dog repellent fluids, but one I tried had no effect. In fact it enticed the dogs to the spot, so they could have a sniff.0 -
When our dog was small we were advised to spot the chair legs (wooden) with Clove oil as the smell deterred him. Also our dog trainer suggested putting a metal tray on the furniture (maybe a tea tray or baking tray) as when the dog jumped up, the noise frightened him off.0

Did the clove oil work? When our dog was small we were advised to spot the chair legs (wooden) with Clove oil as the smell deterred him. Also our dog trainer suggested putting a metal tray on the furniture (maybe a tea tray or baking tray) as when the dog jumped up, the noise frightened him off.0 -
I'd just let him on it and give up on the idea of clean furniture. It'll save you loads of hassle in the long run!0

that's the thing, he is allowed on the sofa, its leather and easy to clean, but my chair is fabric and he'd ruin it. may try the clove oil on the chair legs though.
to be fair to him, up to now I have told him to get down each time he's jumped on it, and interest seems to be waning.
he is such a lovely boy, but then I am biased!LIVE SIMPLY * GIVE MORE * EXPECT LESS * BE THANKFUL0 -
I think if you allow him on one piece of furniture (leather) and not another (material) you will totally confuse him. I would do all or nothing. You need to be persistent and as soon as he jumps up on either say 'no' firmly and lead him down. So long as you stick with this, and move him off immediately he should get the idea pretty quickly.
As far as when you are out - either make the room out of bounds or put barriers up to stop him, dining chairs as other have suggested or maybe empty washing baskets?0 -

Why? our dogs are allowed on the couches but not the beds and they manage to stick to that. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett
